Fished the Truckee today with good luck in the morning. If you are plan to fish the Truckee anytime soon, make sure to bring crayfish patterns. I caught several fish on Crayfish, Pheasant tails and small midges. Fishing was best between 9:00 and 11:00. Once the heat set in during the early afternoon, t...
Today I did something stupid and if the offended party reads this post, I am truly sorry. I ran across 3 guys at access #5 who were using worms on barbed hooks and I got on them about no live bait, barbless, yadda yadda . . .and then realized we are in regular season with all the bad that goes with it.I even...
Yesterday I spent the day throwing streamers on the Madison with Steve from The Slide Inn. Kelly Galloup and his guides at the Slide Inn are the place to learn to throw big streamers. We had an amazing day, I turned over 70 fish, some over 20" and was able to land about 20 of them. My camera got drench...
I was working at the hatchery at Livingston last week. Attached are some photos of the work being performed by the USFWS. The hatchery releases thousands of endangered winter run salmon on the lower sac. They are also working on the delta smelt. The hatchery is below the Shasta dam. All of the tra...
This rod is brand new in perfect condition. Never been cast or lined up. I got the rod as a replacement for a broken rod. Asking $250 retails for $299 -- Edited by Codym on Wednesday 12th of August 2009 10:09:53 PM
I was vacationing in Tahoe last week and got out twice to fish the LT. On Tuesday I went out for an afternoon session and got on the water about 3:00. Started at the upper section and got into a fish right away, maybe 3 casts into it. Nice 22 inch rainbow. A couple of casts later in the same run and I get an 18 inc...

Sorry, this isn't a post about catching 50 lunkers in one day. But I'm going to Truckee to play golf at Old Greenwood on Thurs. and I'm bringing the fly rod to fish before I tee off. My 2 favorite hobbies on the same day, sweet! Any ways, is any body gonna be up there early Thurs. morning? I hate fishing...
I'm looking to get a fly reel for my 4 wt rod in the 90 to 130 dollar range. I already own a Pflueger Trion which I think is a great low end reel. I'm looking at the G-Loomis Venture series. Has anybody heard anything on this reel? I'm either gonna get the Loomis or the Pflueger.
Saw some Korkers that have interchangeable soles. Felt, rubber, studded, rubber/studded, felt/ studded, etc. Sounds like a great concept, but may be a gimmick. Anybody own a pair?

After last weekend, I had to get back one more time. Hot again, 100 ish degress. Being that I was the only guy on the river, I took a mid-day swim when the fishing turned off. That was refreshing!!! Sadly, no river cooled Budweisers turned up this week and I had to rely purely on my own stash. I left at...
After calling two fly shops, and posting on two bulliten boards, I had no current info on Lake Solano. I called the campground last week and they told me the lake hadn't been planted in over a year. I'd never fished there before even though I onlylive a little more than an hour away. So what's a guy to d...
Between not having fished for 6 weeks, and getting tired of the windy, foggy mornings in the bay . . . I decided to run up to the Lower Yuba on Saturday. I knew it was getting bad when my wife said I was backcasting in my sleep, so I had to get up there. What made me get up at 5:00 Am and drive 2 1/2 hours to fish in 1...

Today was one of those amazing days where the fish totally cooperated. I floated the Boulder River which is appropriately named. It was a wild ride down the river tossing hoppers and hopper/droppers. There seemed to be a fish every 5th or 6th cast. I caught 30 or 40 nice browns and rainbows from 13"...
Hey all, I'm heading out to the Truckee and the Little Truckee. I still consider myself a rookie and I always get nervous that I'm gonna get skunked on new water. I've looked at a few other posts, but are there any other tips you guys have out there, such as tippet sizes, methods etc.?
Hey Guys, I dont get it? DFG knows that they cant even come close to supporting the fishing pressure at Putah without stocking it on a regular basis. I drove up to vacaville, got a hotel room thinking it would be great most of the weekend. Wake up call... The woman at Pardesha Market said that DFG has not st...
My next stop was the Bitterroot River in Missoula, Montana. We got on the river at 8:00 am due to the hot weather and fished until after 7:00 pm. The main river wasn't fishing well at all so we walked up a couple of spring creeks stalking brown trout that were hanging out in the cool clear water. It was real...
Today I began my summer road trip. My first stop is the Columbia River in Castlegar, British Columbia. I fished with Chris Dawson (a fly fishing author) who is also a Guide with Dave Brown Outfitters of http://www.davebrownoutfitters.com This is an enormous river with strong currents which grows...
Two weeks ago I purchased my first vise, A real cheap contraption that one actually had to give it a good look to know it was even a fly tying vise. Well the jaws are now completely toast, There all spread open and bent and don't hold a hook. Very frustrating to say the least. So I ponyed up and got a regal rota...
