New to Putah Creek
Permalink

Hi all, my name is Chris. Im a new member here and was hoping to get some info on fishing Putah.
Form research and sources, Ive seen the bigger fish enter the river with the spawn, though I usually won't fish spawning fish if I can avoid it. Currently the flows are around 200 CFS, and seem to be dropping bit by bit.
I grew up fishing the Owens system on the East Side. From what I understand Putah is mostly small fly water, which is really what I do the most. On the East side most flies are in the 18-22 range, and Im used to fishing smaller than that if need be, especially on the Owens and Hot Creek.
I was hoping to get up early and fish Putah tomorrow. But I've decided to ask around before making the drive, and hold off till next weekend. Any reports from recent trips?

With the lower flows you will find many spots to fish....small bugs work best.....fish it now cause the flow will drop even more and once the fish move up to spawn we strongly urge others to not fish the creek....Pt's , zebra midge, mico mays.size 18

If you have fished technical waters such as hot creek then you'll do fine on putah.
