Had an hour to burn this morning on my way near putah so i thought i'd give it a few drifts. The water looked great, nice and green. The flows were up, i'm not sure what they were didn't check. i haven't been on putah since april. Anyway access #3 was looking or sounding good. i was short on time today a...

We made a last run above the HWY 20 bridge on Sunday, as the river closed today until December 1st for fishing that stretch. I thought I might see the first couple of salmon in the system, but none were around. It was another HOT day, near 100 degrees. The fishing was pretty good in the morning, but shut d...
My fishing this summer has been severely curtailed due to the arrival of my daughter, but I might get a free day next weekend. I was thinking about heading up to the North Fork of the Stanislaus or maybe nearby Beaver Creek. Anybody been up there lately? Are the flows too low now? Thanks, Eric
Here are a few pix of some stripers I caught in CT on my summer vacation. It was my first time fly fishing for stripers and, let me tell you, it was a blast. Having that much fun is usually illegal... I can't wait to go again. Anyone have a boat and know where to fish the Delta? Hint, hint. 19 fish to hand, all re...
All I can say to those guys who couldn't make it.....you missed a great time! Thanks again to Bob for hosting at his place. It was another good group of guys to fish with. The beer at the Blue Coyote was in full flow Thursday night. Right on schedule, Brian took another dump or 3 streamside. Shaun's new scr...
I have a boat that needs a cover. I know that some of you guys probably have boats with covers. i need a custom fit, sunbrella travel boat cover. can anyone point me in the right direction?
Bought a pair of Cloudveil Hellroaring Waders online. They were part of a whole big lot of fly fishing gear (Rod, reel, boots etc.) I didn't need the waders but thought they might fit my Dad who was out visiting a while back....Anyway they didn't fit him but the ones I got at the Putah Creek fundraiser did...
I'm pretty busy during the week, but my weekends are fairly free at the moment. As subject says, I'll buy beer/gas. I haven't wet my line all summer and it's just been too long. Let me know if you're interested and maybe we can set something up. -Jon
whenever I fish with a bubble type indicator I inevitably get pops when pull my line out of the water I know this is scaring the fish any comments >? I think I will try yarn . Ill betcha I scared a lot of fish with that popping sound

I just havent been able to find the lower pool the last couple of times and I definitley don't want to try it in the dark does any one feel comforta...
Putah has many different species of fish other than the beloved rainbow trout. I'm interested to know how many of you guys are mainly trout anglers, or if you use your fly rod for other species? I'd prefer trout any day for their beauty and fight, but I've been using my fly rod for every thing else too.
This time of year...& for the next month what would be good to use in the Putah Creek, such as in flys? I always have great catch rate using a #12 hook w/ salmon egg. What does it mean by patterns? Is it the way the fly is tied or is there a certain casting pattern from fly to water?
It took about an hour to tie, but here it is. My first crayfish pattern. Didn't really have the right material for a crayfish, but I did what I could with what I had.
hey guys here's the report from my trip to upper yuba /downie river . we met are guide saterday morn anbd he took us up the yuba about twenty min from the riverside inn . and ralph schooled us in the art of stealth and I kept on getting hits but kept on losing the little guys till ralph told me I need to set the ho...
Been havin some good fun lately in the warm water parts of Putah. Been scouting out some largemouth, and I think I found a good hole with some major lunkers. These suckers are huge! I've pulled out a handful of smaller ones 8"-12" but I need some tips on hookin up the big ones. I've tried mu...
Well maybe I'm a cheap bastard but I just can't figure out why fly fishing gear is so expensive. From $50 fly boxes to $200 vests, we all know how expensive rods and reels can be. I would like to hear some of your comments. I'm thinking it's the culture, we'll save up and throw down the dough for this &quo...
#11... "Thou shalt love the waters and all things that nourish therefrom; and thou shalt cherish and protect them as thine own~ For all nature is thy home and all living things are thy kin." What I'm talking about is a book that I just rediscovered last night as I was looking through my book sh...

For some feedback . when I go to putah creek from napa I'v put 20 bucks out for gas . bought some flys and maybe some tippet .Now as I'm pulling in do I pay the six bucks? Or just drive by ? truth be known it's about fifty/fifty . what does the six bucks go for and what happens if I get...
What's a good way to set the drag? Prior to hooking up a fish based on what the tippet can handle? Very light to pull off line easily for casting and then adjusting as needed for the size of the fish? I'm still learning and it seems that when I hook up a strong fish I start to freak out and just hold the line a...

For those of you who can get KCSM (channel 17 on Comcast), there is a show called "Fly Tying: Angler's Art" that is broadcast every weekday morning at 9:00 A.M.. They ususally tie 3 or 4 different flies during this 30 minute program. I don't know how many weeks this show will be broadcast,...
So I've tried all of the three major fly line manufacturers now (Rio, SA, and Cortland). Surprisingly all three have different pros and cons. I was curious what lines you folks use, and why you choose one brand or another. I thought I had nailed it when I bought a Rio nymph line, but I've found these Rio li...
