I fish the upper reaches of the North Fork of the American river two weekends ago. It was a section of the river about five miles above the Iowa Hill Rd Bridge after the turn off at Colfax on the way to sugar pines reservoir. I had fished the area at Christmas but a lot has changed since then, entire trees hav...
Is there one single rule in the state as far as the high water mark goes. Funny I should probably know this but mostly fish public water. Most places you have to be below the high water mark. Some spots I have heard it's the median water mark. I am more specifically asking about the Russian. Found som...
Has anyone ever checked out the trails in Cold Canyon? The trailhead is just up the highway from the bridge. I did the loop trail yesterday for the first time. I went back today and went the other way around the loop. The view of Lake Berryessa and Putah Creek are awesome. If you haven't done it b...

Fished Putah yesterday and was doing my usual scan of what kind of life there is going on on the rocks and under. Looked on top of a rock in a riffel and found what sure looked like a stone fly that had crawled out and hatched. I tried to take a picture with my phone but too blury. I thought some time back there w...

I have noticed over the years that some of the flys that I have tied poorly work better than perfect copy of a pattern. Of course when this happens this I keep tying in the new varriation. And there are some flies that i have fished untill the last scrap of thread is barley hangin on the hook and it is still t...
A couple of us went up to the Yuba on Friday. Once again, a little rain kept many of the fair weather fans off of the river. Nonetheless, we decided to head upriver away from any crowds. We worked our way up from the bridge, trying all kinds of rigs. No bugs were coming off in the morning, no fish were ris...

Just recieved my new Redding Fly Shop catalog, and after looking through the fly section i saw it advertised that most of the flys that they sell are listed with the recipe on line. Just go to www.theflyshop.com and go to the fly section click on a fly and the recipe should come up with it. I tried it and it i...
Hit the Yuba today with 3 buddies. We went down stream instead of fighting the crowds above the bridge. We got the the Bridge around 8:00 and I pulled into the North side just to see how many cars were there, surprisingly only 4. Crossed the bridge and headed down about a mile. Started with skwala stone ny...
At the Fish and Game Committee meeting today, the regulations were changed for Putah Creek to year round barbless fly or srtificial lure . . . .it has happened!!!!!!!
I've been trying to find this pic that I saw about a week ago I think on here . it was this I believe at was a salt water fish that had these huge teeth that were very rounded and it had a mouth like what looked like a carp anyways i've been looking and can't find it now. any help on where to look would be great. tha...
I see that the creek has been pretty blown out from the rains. What flies do you guys recommend right now? I am still a fly noob, so be kind haha. I will be staying at the campground too. I just want to catch fish, don't care if they are dinks or not.
Was just reading on Kiens about Diane Fienstien amending a bill to start up the Delta pumps again and thought I would share this with you all. There is a pre writen letter and link to Fienstien that I think you all should take a look at. From Kiens fly shop message board. Save the Salmon!!I just got the fo...
Anyone going to be out there? I mean from the board, as I'm sure it will be busy on the water. I think I'm going to plan on heading downstream of the bridge instead of upstream where everyone else will be.
There is a amendment being introduced by Diane Fienstein to start up the delta pumps again. If you are interiested look at the post save our Salmon in the conservation Forum. I have posted some information that I saw on another message board. Our water needs to stay here!

hello everyone, I was planning a trip to the trinity say, April 3rd to the 6th. Has anyone ever fished the trinity during april or late march? I am wondering if the water is wadable during that time of the year, and if there are still the big dudes around other then just the smolts.
Not sure if this is Putah specific, but maybe it is so here goes: I was fishing the creek yesterday and had a fish on for about 10 seconds then it spit the hook. I kept fishing the same hole, with the same flies for the next half hour after that with no luck. So my question is; when a fish gets hooked then gets ...
5:30 AM me and my brother headed out to the river. Arrived at our location at 630ish, geared up, in the water at 645ish. I was amazingly surprised the water was clear enough to fish, and not chocolate. I failed to land the first hookup, but I did get my second. :). It is weird to see a piggie jump... it looks l...
The lure of the Yuba pulled me in again. I ran up this morning for a quick day trip. Ran into Cody at the parking area when I got there. It looked like he was in a Conestoga Wagon, there were 5 fly fishers packed into a van for their day trip. I hope no one had refried beans for the trip home. Th Skwala hatch ha...
I was just rolling through the Fishing regulations looking at the regs for the yuba and noticed regs for the section below Daguerre Point Dam. It looks like this is artificial only section. Has anybody fished this section before and is it worth the trip? How is the access?
