Calaveras is pretty slow now. Honestly no B.S here I wouldn't bother.

Not worth it! Hovering around 25 for the past month, with the flows dropping to an even worse trickle for a few days. Guarantee the salad has grown--I would imagine by now it needs a good flushing! With flows this low for this long, expect more green, less productive water, and shallow holes that you can spit across. Like Shon said--better fishing elsewhere.

Normally I wouldn't bother either but I'll be right next to it over the Holidays and thought I could at least wet a line.

I tried my luck on Thanksgiving but I only had an hour or so to get in there. I did see a kid who said he caught one just above the bridge but I didn't see it. I hit a spot pretty close to the parking not and never made it far enough to actually see the dam.

Access is pretty good from the Dam to the bridge near the parking lot but it looks like there are some deeper holes past the bridge if I can get down there. Access down river of the bridge looks pretty limited.

Calaveras sucks.... Limited access and full of grass in almost every hole. I'd fish the Mokelumne when it opens Jan. 1st.

It's like fishing in a big bowl of slimy salad with a little trickle going through it.

Ok, any suggestions of places to go in that area on Christmas day? Like I said I won't be in town on New Years so the Moke is out.

Thanks for the fly suggestion, btw.

I was there early this year with flows at 25, what everyone else said BUT I actually had a nice day of it. Not tons of fish, but enough to keep it interesting.

Not the place you drive out of your way for, but if you are there what the heck, go for it. Don't overlook the pools around the bridge.

I went there to try out a sage spl 3 wt that I had just picked up and it was a great fit for the river.

Thanks. I'll be about 5 minutes away so I thought I'd give it a (better) shot.
