I'll be fishing the Truckee and N Yuba this weekend. Any body have tips for the Truckee? I already know to dress warm. I figured that out on my own -Taylor
has anybody seen the flows this low before and whats the impact of the flows being this low ! 62qfs I was thinking of going tomorrow to just check it out and possibly fish if thats not to unethical sounds kinda that way. what do you think ? and what's up with those flows
I finally convinced MX 19 to show me where the fish were. While waiting for MX 19 to show up African Angler and Rgloft spotted me on the creek. We all went fishing where we were all sworn to secrecy and I finally landed a fish. RG and the African angler were having fun as well. I was nearly swept down to...
i recently bought a pair of simms freestones, well they are on their way back to simms do to crappy material, the eyelets broke and the shoe laces are already coming apart. anyways here is my question. i bought 10s they fit great with waders and one pair of thermal socks, but wondering how well with 11s fi...
Just as I was heading into a good spot, I ran into RG Loft - whom I'd never met. We went up stream and whacked a bunch of fish, but the fish got tired of us catching them so I moved further up stream. RG got to see me fall down smashing my right shin and hip and filling my waders part of the way up while fishing nea...
Obviously water temps are important in trout streams and rivers, but I've never used a thermometer out fishing. How many of you guys/ gals check water temps?
The egg bite is on. I was blindfolded and sworn to secrecy, but there are a few steelies and trout behind the salmon this time of year. I am not sure where I was fishing, but I saw quite a few salmon. The only fish I landed was on a small stonefly.
Hey All, I finally decided to stop working around the clock and spend some time standing in the middle of a river waving a stick around. Richard, Sarah, and I hit a "top secret" (not really) spot on Putah and we all had a good afternoon. We ran in to JL on his way out too - hopefully he'll share his...
The flows are really coming down. The creek looks very different from last week. After I finally found the fish I landed 4 out of 6 hooked and got this little beauty. My best of the season so far.
Going to fish the LT for only the second time on Friday. Any general recommendations? The first time we fished it in May or June (for a couple of hours), it was low and had a lot of algae. We started at the dam and worked our way downstream. We got skunked. Without giving away your honey holes, is th...

We got back from our Montana run last week. This year we tried something different, going down to Dillon in the fall. We had an opportunity to fish the Beaverhead, Big Hole, Ruby, Poindexter Slough, Red Rock and Big Sheep rivers. We found a fishing lodge called the Great Waters Inn located on the Big H...
It appears to me that the weed growth in the creek has been expanding each year, covering more area in its usual slower water sites and expanding into faster areas where it has been absent or almost so. This year it appears particularly bad. We would like to hear your views, since it is one more environ...
Well boys, we me and my buddy were down fishing Putah Creek and hammered some huge trout in the Riparian Reserve. They were spawning so we thought we would try our luck with rainbow trout streamers and pissed them off. They hammered those streamers so hard and fought like no other fish I have caught on th...
Was on the water yesterday and watched a guy guy hook up with about 4 or 5 fish in 15 minutes. I was watching intently and trying to learn with my eyes. Anyway he told me that he was getting them all on a "Twinkie" like I should have known what that was. I was on the other side of the stream and could h...
Rgloft and I both hit up the creek today. We each caught a fish, mine was a dinky yearling and his was bigger, 8-10"? Did see an Osprey out there too, I guess they wouldn't be around if there were no fish. -Jon
Haven't posted in awhile but thought you guys would like to see some pics from my yearly excursion to the Kenai Peninsula in AK. Fishing was pretty good in terms of size but numbers were down significantly. Landed my PB rainbow of 30" x 18.5" which put it at just under 15 lbs. Had one day where...
Went fishing with Dr. B over the weekend. On saturday I caught around 12 in the morning then it just died out in the afternoon. On sunday I caught around 15 in the morning. The biggest fish was a 16ish incher on a yellow stimulator. I found 3 different spots where I would hook at least 5 fish in each of them. I...
If you go to the right spot right now, you might catch more than you can count, ranging from 6 inches to 16 inches, as I did from 5:00 to 7:00 last night. JT special and a grey zebra midge were killing them. If we get the regs passed for next year, perhaps the entire creek will reemerge as stellar. JL
I have just switched to using flouro for my leader and am having trouble tying a Perfection Loop in it ?!?I can't get it to hold and it keeps slipping, am I doing something wrong?? Sorry for all the questions...and thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Alastair
To all, As most know I am a rookie and unfortunately don't get much time to fish anywhere else but Putah. So don't get into many fish I am sure it is me more than anything. I seem to do a lot of obssesing over wether I have enough weight or too much is my dropper long enough or too short, leader to long short etc e...
Dear Forum members and guests: Putah Creek Trout has submitted a request for a change in the FGC regulations that, if passed, would make from Monticello Dam to Lake Solano a year-round, zero limit, barbless artificial lures only fishery.Public support of the regulation change is a critical step i...

I have been using a "Thingymabobber" as my indicator. I really like them but have 2 problems. Continually leaving kinks in my tapered leader, or it continually slides down the leader, especially now that I am using a level 3x leader most of the time. For now I am using one of those slide ones...
Hey guys, I haven't posted much here recently for different reasons. It looks like the Winter fighting is already starting up. I just want to remind you guys that there are LOTS of other options for winter fishing other than Putah. The last 2 years I hardly fished Putah in the Winter and didn't really mi...
Just wondering if anybody has been using their Putah Flies offered by PCT this Spring? I tried them for the first time today, I've been holding out because I'm to afraid to lose one. Had no luck with my usual cast of characters, so I tried the tiniest of the red midges, one with a glass beaded head and the ot...
