Went to the American River yesterday for the first time. I never had a take the entire day. I fished sailor bar from about 11 til dark. There was pehaps a 8-10 fly fisherman there and another dozen gear fisherman (I'm not sure if that a big crowd for the american or not). I talked to a few people (Fly fisherman and gear/bait fisherman) and most seemed to be having the same day I was, but a couple people said thay had lost fish and I saw a flyfisherman land a nice steelie about 6 or 7 lbs. What a gorgeous day to get skunked, though. I started the day without a jacket, and by noon I had to roll up the sleeves of my long sleeve fishing shirt. Does anybody have any recommendations on good sinking lines to use for swinging flies on the American? The one I was using yeterday is getting pretty old (its about 110 in fly line years) so I'm in the market for a new one.
