I just bought a 590-2 Sage RPL. I picked it up on ebay and its in amazing condition for how old it is. And yes I said RPL for all you "old timers." I guess its not that old, but they did come out with the RPL series back in 1985. Many say that this rod put Sage on the map and was a huge advancement in graphite technology. Some say that its the best rod Sage has made to date. From what I understand the RPL has quite a cult following. It has a nice medium/fastish action that I must say doesnt feel like a lot of the modern rods today. All I know is it feels sweet and I cant wait to fish it!
Any other RPL owners out there?
Robert

Hi Hobbs, Haven't been on the site for a while and just saw your post. I have the 4 pc. version of your rod and it might be my favourite. It is the first of several Sages I've aquired over the years and I agree that it has the sweetest action! I've seen a lot of them as well as the rpl+ versions on ebay and I'm always tempted to pick up another one. Maybe a 9 1/2 ' 6 wt if I can find one. Enjoy yours! Viking

I have an old 790-2 RPL that I found at garage sale. I use it as a bass rod. It is lined up with a Sage 290 grain BASS line that is on a made in USA Pflueger 1495. I love casting #2 deerhair divers with it. I can feel the rod load all the way to grip. Plus I love it when a bucket mouth puts a bend in it.

I personally like modern fast action rods. They just work better for my casting tempo. Yet I have preferred softer rods for tossing bass bugs.

Viking,

I read your post this morning, and thought of you when I saw the following on eBay.  I don't know if you will consider the price a bargain, but I have personally purchased from this company in the past and believe I received a fair price and good service.
