I've been checking the available web sites for the past month, but have heard almost nothing. Can anybody give me any kind of update for river conditions and/or steelhead in the system.
Very funny lightfoot....the river has been pretty much fouled for over a month. Fly fishing has been more or less out of the question. As of three weeks ago the Dry Cr. Hatchery had very few fish so far. It will pick up though Im sure.
From 1986-89 I went to school at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Ca. near the Mad river. After a few Winter storms came through and blew out the river it was custom to see people flyfishing the riffles just downstream from the hatchery. They used the method described above and consistently hooked several fish an hour.
The sad part was Fish and Game would never bother to ticket them.

Now that I'm 64, I guess I'm turning into a curmudgeon. I tried to ignore your first message. I'm always afraid, when I see something as off the wall as the first, because there is always someone out there who will read it and say, "well that sounds like a good idea, I think I'll try it." Never underestimate the ignorance of some people who read our comments. Thank you for your second clarification.
My grandparents are from humboldt co. My old man and I would always go out to the hatchery and watch people trying to foul hook maybe twenty yards downstream of the hatchery. My dad would always swear under his breath and shake his head.
