Tiemco hooks - consistently sharp?

I must admit that I have been disappointed with the consistency of the sharpness of Tiemco hooks, particularly the 2x heavy hooks (e.g. 3769, 2457, 3761).  The smaller sizes of theses hooks are more consistently sharp (but not all of them), but the larger sizes seem to be much more inconsistent.  Earlier this year I sent an email to Umqua (the distributors of Tiemco) about the size 10 2457 hooks and got a phone call the next day.  The guy I talked to actually sent me some replacement hooks, a barbless version, so they did respond as well as they could.  However, I still have lots of Tiemco hooks that I must deal with.  To check the sharpness I use the "thumbnail test" where I pass the hook across my thumbnail; if the hook point snags on my thumb, it's sharp.  I have found that in the larger sizes of hooks, a greater percentage of hooks fail this test.  Thus, I spend my time sharpening these hooks instead of tying.  I don't know for sure if the hooks were always this inconsistent in sharpness or if I'm just getting fussier in my old age.  I guess I'm wondering if any others have noticed this problem.  (Last year I fished Pyramid lake and lost a good number of fish during one of my trips.  That's what triggered my concern about the sharpness of my hooks.  For the next trip to Pyramid I went through all of my flies and checked and sharpened all of my files.  On my next trip the percentage of lost fish went way down)
