Putah gives it up in the Fall!

Probably not what you were expecting, but I thought I'd mix it up a bit before the shananigans start up again.  Caught these feisty little bass in Davis after work yesterday.

The "Other" Putah Creek has always treated me well :)  I can get to lower in 10 mins and upper in 30.  Sometimes that 20 mins means getting a line in the water or not.  I gladly take the lower as an alternative to not fishing at all :)

Bonk, I know exactly what you're talking about, if I can't leave work early to drive up to the trout section of Putah, I'll make the 5 min drive from my house and hit lower Putah.

Richard, OF COURSE I'm using a fly rod.  Olive wooly buggers will catch anything down there, the bigger ones will go after clousers and decievers.

Kyle, dude I'm not sure what that was, I've never caught a smallie there but it had absolutely no spots or marks on it at all.  Kinda weird looking.

was it a brownish gold color? cause thats what it looks like in the picture, if their are smallies down there I may have to try it out, smallmouth bass are my favorite fish of alll time and I love catching them regardless of size

Yep it was brown/gold.  Probably was a smallie.  It is the first one I've seen there and I've caught tons of largemouths so I'm not sure there are very many.  Hit me up someday if you want, I usually go after work on my way home from Dixon.  Lower Putah is only open for another week or so.

The second pic. is a smallmouth bass. The species of bass in lower putah are your typical northern large mouth and the northern smallmouth bass. If your not sure what type you have caught the easiest way is this, Northern smallmouth the jaw never extents past the mid point of the eye's pupil, Northern largemouth's jaw always extents past the entire eye. Another way is look at the dorsal fin, On a smallmouth the spiny rays and the softrays are connected, On a northern largemouth the spiny and softrays of the dorsal fin is seperated.

Ya, I actually left you a message the other day, no worries.  Now with the time change there isn't much daylight after work.  Check your pm.
