Dear Sir, I would like to address the attempts being made by the Putah Creek Trout foundation (P.T.C.) and any affiliated fly fishing groups to make Putah Creek a dedicated, no take, "wild fishery". I would like to start by saying there would, in all likelihood, be no wild trout in Putah C...
I was out last week and I saw some guys fishing with sin rods, so I watched to see if they were using bait. It looked like they were using artificial eggs, but the rubber powerbait type not a yarn type. Is it legal to use rubber bait? What if it has a scent? I took a photo of the truck with the license plate showi...

As we all know, hunting for chrome or trout right now just isn’t in the lineup for our weekly ritual due to the high blow out flows of every CA River. Well I just couldn’t take the cabin fever anymore. 2 weeks of tying, canceling trips, more trying and playing an occasional video game just wasn’t cutting t...

Fished in rain yesterday; vis is very low and fish are hiding. Saw one fish about 10" hit my 3/4" thingamobober, so I switched to egg pattern. No fish caught between me and my brother. If you do fish Putah careful of the skunks...they are everywhere.
Please consider--I have been asked to post on behalf of Stanislaus Fly Fishers: The Modesto Fly Fishing Film Tour showing is a fund raising event for sending Modesto- area combat-disabled U.S. military veterans on an all-expenses paid fly fishing trip to Utah's Green River through the non-profit...
Anybody on the board fish Lake Berryessa much? I have spring break coming up in a couple weeks and I thought I'd give it a try, but I've never fished it before. I just inherited a canoe and want to try it out as well. Is the flyfishing any good on berryessa or would it be better just to go to lake solano?
Fishing has been a little slow on Putah. I saw these Gama hooks to size 30... I may have to order some for those slow days.http://www.bearsden.com/product8747.html

A survey being conducted on the creek by DFG and PCT indicates the spawn is about over. But that does not mean its safe to wade in the tailouts and other redd areas. After fertilization, the eggs are at risk to crushing boot treads for 45-50 days afterward. That means its another month, until April, befo...
I just moved to davis from livermore becuase I'm attendind UCD. While I was living in the Bay Area my usual haunt was the lower stan, below goodwin dam, but now that I'm so close to Winters I figured I should turn my attention to Putah Creek. I tried the creek for the first time last thursday. I fished u...
Had a blast with my father fishing the Lower Sac with Ryan Johnston. After teaching the old dog the new trick, we boated 26 nice rainbows which topped out at 19.5". We drifted the middle section. It was cold but dry. Most of the fish were taking orange egg patterns! Weird time of year for that bu...
I had a chance to go to the Flyfishing Show in Pleasanton today. Once again, fewer rod and reel manufacturers and fewer outfitters as well. No DF&G booth either. No Leland or Western booth as well. This show sems to get a bit smaller every year. I'm amazed that a number of larger rod and reel ma...

Met up with Brian on the American this morning to test the spey rod for his up coming Alaska trip. This is a 11 weight, a little heavier than his 5 weight.
