OK, I admit it. I've taken up golf after quiting for 30 years and I'm hooked (pardon the pun). Anyway, I'm trying to drag my aging butt to a river to fish. I'm wondering if there are any steelhead in the Russian yet? Thanks for any info. PS--I did go up to the Truckee last week. The weather changed eve...
Hello all, I hoped to get up to the creek this weekend but I don't want to make the drive twice. Any suggestions on a place to camp Saturday night? I have only fished the creek once before and I only remember an RV park by the bridge. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just need a place to crash after a lo...
hello all... i'm new to putah creek as well as a new fly fisherman. i've been reading a few posts about how anglers should not be fishing sections of the creek where the trout are spawning? so what makes a section of the creek a spawning bed? thanks, Hornet_RN
My clients car got broken into yesterday down at access 4. They had left one of the windows cracked and the criminal pushed the window down. Must have been a quick job because they didn't take everything. Be careful out there and let's keep an extra eye out on everyones rigs while we are out there.
I may be heading up to the McCloud for this next weekend with a group from Fly Fishers of Davis. I've seen photots and it looks beautiful! I've tied a few October caddis pupas size 10 and have some big stimulators in my box. Any other tips or recent reports? Thanks...
Similar to my last 2 October trips to Putah Creek, I caught lots of small fish 6-12 inches on small BWO patterns on surface and subsurface. This is most likely because I was fishing the surface to many rising fish. I suspect bigger fish are feeding deep as usual, and may be transitioning upstream to star...
With the low flows, many drifts are now more accessible. I fished access 1 last Friday morning. I tried the typical dead drifted small nymphs without success and then noted some fish showing on the surface. A few were even jumping out of the water. I took off my Thingamabobber and put on a couple sof...
Back to the Yuba. Fishing was pretty slow, but I did manage to catch Frankenfish! My first Yuba fish from the Feather. I think DFG cut the fishes head open and poured Yuba water into its head. There was a vertical cut on the head just about all the way around... -- Edited by Otter on Saturday 27th of Oct...
First trip to Lake Davis and had a ton of fun! Mitch from PCT showed a group of people from his fly club how to fish the lake. I just tagged along to see what all the hype was about. Mitch is a fishing machine! He landed 29 fish in one day as compared to me and others that were happy to land four of these monst...
Hi everyone! My name is Albert and am really happy I stumbled across this forum it has been very helpful. I am super new to fly fishing and am very excited to explore Putah Creek. With that being said I will try to come to a creek clean up and get to know more about Putah Creek from the experts! I plan on head...
I have been doing some casting lessons for the Canyon Creek Resort the past couple of weekends. I have had the opportunity to discuss the regulations and everything that is happening on Putah Creek. Most of their guests have been very nice and understanding with the catch and release regs. I had a c...
Headed up North tonight for Fly Fishing Specialties annual Rogue River Invitational. There is a new points system this year where it awards more points for fish taken on the Skate! Check out the FFS facebook page for updates throughout the weekend.
Woohoo I was super happy when the Giants won today. I went out and celebrated by catching a few fish on the creek after the game! Just watched Coco Crisp grip it and rip it. Go Giants and A's!!!!
I have a friend thats new to FF -his first yr and he is wearing these boots Tiny Tim wouldnt wear. I mean Really these boots are really really bad and he could use some used waders to but nearley as bad as he really needs some boots . We cant even fish these days his boots are so bad. At least one, possibly 2, deer carcasses have been stinking up the Access 5 island. The one seen appears to be a mountain lion kill. Be careful, especially around dark, in the heavy undergrowth areas. Jordan-you might let Tim know.
Today was epic, started off by hooking a toad that broke me off quickly. Then had a coupl others spit the hook that weren't very big. I decided to move spots near the end of the day which turned out to be memorable. I started to fish a fast run, after a few casts my indicator stalled and I was into a fish. I tho...
Went fishing on the lower stan today as I was walking up to the dam below Lake Tulloch on the gravel trail next to the canal I noticed that there was no water in the canal. Its usually pretty full depending on the time of year. There were to Long puddles about 6 inches deep with about 150 nice sized trout in...
The areas I fished yesterday are loaded with young trout. This is great to see. There was a big BWO hatch an hour before dark that brought these young trout to the surface. I managed to catch one which is shown in the attached image. I have fished Putah the last 2 Sundays and only caught small fish. Althoug...
Had my first solo adventure to the E Carson. Super low water, but still fun. A lot of work as the fish were only holding in the areas with more water, a good quarter to half mile apart. And of course, that's where everyone was fishing. Was still able to manage a few nice fish in the evenings, tossing small dr...

Fished for a few hours Sunday. Found a large pod of consistently rising fish. They were almost impossible to get to but I tricked one into taking a skated #16 tan elk hair caddis. Got another on a green wolly bugger just after it hit the water. That surprised me. Best part of the evening was finding a half d...

Took my kayak out today and "drifted" guides hole. Lots of action mid to lower part of the run. Mostly toward the far bank and mid stream. No way to get those drifts without floating it at these flows. Certainly a challenge trying to play a fish as it takes you downstream into overhanging tree...
The resort is hosting an afternoon Octoberfest beer tasting and fly fishing expo an October 20th. CCR has been very supportive of PCT's efforts on the creek. Lets have some fun and renew acquaintances
