The areas I fished yesterday are loaded with young trout. This is great to see. There was a big BWO hatch an hour before dark that brought these young trout to the surface. I managed to catch one which is shown in the attached image. I have fished Putah the last 2 Sundays and only caught small fish. Although I miss the tug of a big one, the health of this fishery is promising.

I filled out a survey.

Thanks for the report K, even the poorest areas from the past few years are loaded with (small) fish.  Isn't it fun trying to follow your size 20 BWO in the failing light?

Hi, Believe I fished the pool tail below you on Sunday for a little while (thanks for letting me fish in).  I fished for 4 hrs on Sun, first time I've been there since last winter.  Hooked half a dozen, landed 3.

Two notable events:

1) I interupted a couple who were let me say fully enjoying the outdoor air......seriously right in front of one of my favorite pieces of water

2) got broken off by the biggest fish I've hooked at Putah, a rainbow of at least 22 inches ewhich I got a good look at as it snapped me off when jumped.  Was on a size 20 on 6x, downstream from me and no way I could have followed it downriver if it had stayed on.  Hopefully it will shed the hook soon enough.

I also went out yesterday too. There were more people out then previous weekends. I caught a range of sizes yesterday too. Its great to see this fishery slowly making a comeback. These fish like to spit the hook. I lost my largest fish yesterday from them spitting the hook out after a few acrobatic jumps. Tough business witht the smaller hooks.

It wasn't me you fished below, although I would not have minded. I'd actually like to fish alongside some of you guys to learn some techniques, tricks, etc.

I like to tie off the tiny low floating BWOs to a size 16 caddis dry. This way I watch the caddis and set if it goes down. It works quite well.

I didn't see many cars left when I headed out so assumed it was you.

I asked whoever it was that was fishing if it was ok to fish the tail of the (large) pool he was in.

There were some fish taking BWO's in the slow water.

I'm still recovering from seeing the couple full on at in near the river, I'm not sure they knew I was there but they didn't stop what they were doing.

LOL.

All I saw to be honest was a white blanket with a couple "arranged" underneath, with some gyrations.

They may have been trying to threat a size 26 trico on 7x.....

What a sight I'm sure.  Reminds me of the time Dr. Bomday ( Shaun) was taking a streamside nap in the bushes on the Truckee after a very late  Bombay Saphire oiling session the previous night.  As memory serves, I don't think he hooked up much that day nor enjoy the Sierra Nevada scenery much.

This is probably the funniest thread I've read in a while. Hilarious! On a side note, great to report!
