My clients car got broken into yesterday down at access 4. They had left one of the windows cracked and the criminal pushed the window down. Must have been a quick job because they didn't take everything. Be careful out there and let's keep an extra eye out on everyones rigs while we are out there.
Thanks for the update. Last Wednesday I parked at #4 and was talking to another fisherman for a few minutes and forgot to close my window. As I was walking down to the riffle he yelled to warn me about the open window. I got lazy and didn't go back, but was lucky not to lose anything. Note to self: don't be an idiot - lock up!
Fished several spots along the creek last Monday, first stop was access 4. As I was gearing up, I watched a guy on foot walking the road upstream. When I was about to head down to the water, he walked over and into the out house. He was in there a while, I waited until he came out as I wanted to try and get a read on him. His ball cap didn't say I AM A CRIMINAL, but he had this exhausted, confused look about him that concerned me. When He came out, he walked over and asked about the fishing, and commented that it was unfair that bait dunking was now off limits. This is about when I began to hear banjo music in my head. He went on to say that the change in regs had"ruined it" for the locals and couldn't understand why the stream had been given over to fly fisherman! I explained that spinning rods are ok and as long as he was tossing barbless lures or better yet a bubble and fly set up it was fine. He seemed surprised by that , wished me luck and walked the road back toward Winters. I sat on the bench until he was out of sight before I headed down to the creek. Hit the riffle below the pump from the far side and did pretty well with a bunch of mid sized footballs. Man the fish look healthy! Despite the fact that I was engaged in some steady action, I had that nagging realization that I might find my ride not as I left it upon my return. Luckily, all was well when I got back and continued to enjoy the day. have fun Yall! VIKING
There are currently a lot of homeless folks. Some are traveling along anywhere you go these days. When I find someone fishing for the sake of something to eat I do not give them any lecture about "single barbless" etc. The American River Canyon area has families camping out long term. Its rough but I give people a lot of leeway before assuming they are likely to break into your vehicle. Treat people the way you want to be treated.
You have to use your intuition. I don't know how many times I've evaded trouble by going with my gut. I'm not sure it has anything to do with "Treat people the way you want to be treated."
