Fall is in the air. Bird diversity is WAY up on the Creek. The fishing will follow soon. Saw several(!) Pileated Woodpeckers trolling the cottonwoods today. And for beer aficionados, like myself, the Berryessa Brewing tap room is now open in the Berryessa Gap Winery grounds on HWY 128, 3-8 Fri, 1...
Well I got off work a little early today and decided to check out the creek. I nearly just went back home because it was so hot out there... Anyways the fishing was pretty good. Hooked a few lost a few and had a ton of fun. The fish are fat and hungry! Nothing too big, but lots of fight!
Made it to the lower Stan last Saturday morning, found water at about 230cfs, clear, and many cooperative fish, almost all of them came on a 20-22 midge pattern. I started with a size 18, got a couple and suspected I wasn't small enough. Sizing down made a huge difference. I used a beadhead attractor...
Flows were nice this past week. I had a group out this morning, flows were nice around 510 and we found some happy fish. It looks like things just spiked up to 851 from when we left around 1:00pm. Be careful out there.
Finally got out this weekend. We have a claim between Goodyear bar and Downieville with a couple of nice pools, the fish are not large but will rise to a caddis in the afternoon. We found some nice gold in the morning.
Flows at 562 cfs. Fished above and below bridge - one small fiesty trout and a larger tug. Thats it for the day.
Waded across to Shon's hole. It looked like no one had been over there in a whie as there was a thicket of blackberry and that tall grass stuff. I'm sure I created a few small holes i...

I have a Sage 10 weight that I need to get off of my hands. This rod has only been used 3 times. The handle looks brand new. No nicks on the rod. Comes with rod sock and tube. This is the perfect sal****er rod from fishing large stripers to casting at dorado in baja. $350. I can deliver in Chico or I will mail the...
Its been a fairly good year on the Northfork with fish being a little bigger and more plentiful than the past three. The Mrs. and myself have had a few very good days but as usual fishing in the canyon always proves to be tricky at best. Typically, I fish a 0.5 mile section and then after I throw on the snorke...
I was up at Putah Creek this last Saturday 11th August. It was my first time so I stopped at every parking lot and walked pretty much most of the fishable section. I saw some people fishing with live worms, and others with traditional lures. In one spot, someone had put what looked like raw chicken meat o...
I imagine we are 6-8 weeks out from any spawning habitat work that is going to be done this year as water flows typically drop by the second week of October. Are there any hard dates available yet? Any updates of expected projects or locations? Anything a Friend Of Putah might be able to help with in pr...
I'm packing the camping gear in the car and heading for the hills where it will only be 95 degrees. Silver Fork probably, to fish in the morning and evening and find a nice plunge pool to sit in in the midday hours.
Me and rgloft hit the creek today in lieu of a longer drive. Weren't feeling fishing truckee or yuba in the heat. Irrigation/rafting flows? Tough wading? Perhaps. Sluggish fish...not so much. We did alright, better than we expected. 3 fish to hand for Rich and one for me, plus five or six more hookups...
Hi again all, Despite having been around for a while, I'm still quite the newbie! I'm heading to the Grant Grove area near the Kings River in a week. I'm hoping to get some time on the main river with my 5wt on the first day but due to family commitments, most fishing will be on nearby creeks with a 2wt earl...
Spent some time outside CA for the fourth of July, did some sight seeing and a little fishing. Visited some the country's most famous waters, had one 20 fish day and smaller catches on two others. Now, to win a hot off the embroidering machine limited edition putah creek trout cap all you have to do is ans...

A little over a month ago I went on a walk to find carp. To my surprise I found something different. Before anyone gets any ideas I have been up and down this place on a paddle board and rarely see any fish other then Squaws, carp, and stickle back. Occassionally I will see a trout but probably 1 out of eve...
Hey friends, i just got my book finally published. i'm excited about it and would hope you might consider buying a copy. i tried to keep the POD cost as low as possible without sacrificing its quality... some of it will be familiar to my posts on my blog but in a more linear format. heres the link... http:...
I just got back from a pretty weird few days fishing around Markleeville on the East Carson. I drove up late Thursday and set up the backpacking tent in the dark which was an adventure in itself, built a fire and cracked a cold beer. I was sawing logs by 10pm and up again at 5:00 to hit the wild trout sectio...
Fished a few early hours this morning with a stoned nymph and a caddis nymph. Got into a ton of action. If anyone is wondering if they should hit the Truckee the answer is yes.
Hello, I have a near new fenwick model ff837 fly rod cost $290 over 20 years ago. I'm looking for $125 and it's yours. I also have an old 1960's trutemper fly rod that I put away as a kid over 40 years ago. Anyone know their value. I have found a few other people still using them, one in Sweden. take care...
I'm coming to the area in September from WA and looking for some suggestions on what the best water will be to throw some line in early / mid September? I hear Putah is the best but flows might still be high. Can anyone point me elsewhere? If you could also mention what kind of flies etc. will be coming off...
