As we all know the Sac Valley Rivers have really been on fire for trout and steelhead. And I, as well as a few others have been hitting them pretty hard. I decided that I wanted to get away from the crowds, cars, noises and smog and hit up some high sierra streams before the snow comes in and blocks my cha...
After several delays, me and Steve finally got a trip on Sat. I had this spot on my list of places to fish as I had driven by the turnoff a number of times but always put it off. The rain made for a good day of fishing drys. Didn't see any rock climbers. See if you can find Steve in the last photo
Flows took a major dive today. Droped from around 200 to 39 in a few days, Thats friggin ridiculose ! I assume its the normal lame excuse "flows drop so they can clean out the canals around the diversion dam".
When I ran into Black Cloud ( James Haan) at the PCT fundraiser picnic at Davis Family Vineyards back in July, he mentioned that a book was being published about his father. Well, the book has been published and is now out. It can be ordered through Barnes and Noble among others. The tile is "God...

I have been to The East Carson twice in the previous months(amazing, if you haven't been) which had been my first dry fly fishing that made sense. Things clicked. I caught many fish, and haven't really been the same since. Dry Fly Fever, anyone...So as I stepped into the creek yesterday, I decided to tr...

I think the two most important materials in a fly tiers arsenals are pea**** herl and marabou, in that order. They have so much appeal, and at least a dozen well known flies use them, if not a hundred. I found a recipe years ago in a book I own named Trout Flies of The West. In it there was a tying style from a Co...
Hi all, my name is Chris. Im a new member here and was hoping to get some info on fishing Putah. Form research and sources, Ive seen the bigger fish enter the river with the spawn, though I usually won't fish spawning fish if I can avoid it. Currently the flows are around 200 CFS, and seem to be dropping bit b...

Hit the river yesterday with Brian. We did well in the early morning then it slowed considerably. Moved to another spot and consistently picked up fish through the afternoon but at a much slower rate. Between the 2 of we must of had 20 fish to hand. Here is a pic of Brian with the average size fish caught. E...
Just a few hours to the south! The water is managable and the fish were hitting nymphs at the tops of pools all day. Around 6pm there was an impressive BWO Hatch. I got the fish in the pic just shy of the market at El Portal.
I have been working way too hard lately, so I took 3 fly fishing customers out on a 2 boat drift with Ryan Johnston on the Lower Sac last Thursday. We went Posse Grounds to the RV Park. There are small numbers of salmon in the system right now. Only a couple were in the redds and none seemed to be actively e...
Did you know you can submit your steelhead card info. via there website. www.nrm.dfg.ca.gov/steelhead/reportCard? I just got the notice for my 2009 card.
My largest to date (18"): I am finding alternating above (trout) and below (pikeminnow) the dam to be quite enjoyable. In truth, the Pikeminnows are more "fun" at this point because I can get them to hit just about anything I throw at them I broke in my new fly rod set up; 8'6" St Cl...
Finally made it out to the Yuba to experience those hard fightin' rainbows that I'm always reading about. We hit the water with Ryan Johnston and let me say what an awesome dude, phenomenal guide, hard working and VERY patient. Thanks to Emerger and MX19 for the recommendation! Those fish were unb...
So last week I was able to sneak away for a little fishing. What I didn't realize was I was going to come home a week later with one less friend. My old girl, Brown and a little banged up would not be making another trip for the rest of her life. It's crazy to think how many trips and fish we had seen together...
Hi board members, I'm a recent transplant from WA and was thinking of planning a quick day trip to putah with my significant other. I've fly fished as a kid and have not done so in years so there are some things lacking in my fishing knowledge. I have in my arsenal a 5 wt rod, some attractors, nymphs, and dry...
I will be going to the yuba tomorrow on 9/27. Ill be getting there dark and early. Been doing very well and figured I would post to see if anyone would like to join me. If so give me a call and we can figure out the details. Brian 530-354-3740
Spent this weekend in the Sierra's and had a blast. Caught tons of fish, mostly little guys from 6-12 inches, but the size of fish never matters when you catch a bunch. I even made it down to the east slope and got into some browns. With all this nice weather in early fall it's time to get out there, and bri...

PCT is sponsoring a clean up crew for the interdam reach of the creek on Saturday Sept 25. This is an annual event that we have sponsored the last two years. Please sign up if you are available to help out. It is scheduled for 9 AM to Noon and we will have a BBQ following at Access 3. Waders and sturdy gloves a...
Hit up the North Yuba while visiting family in Sierra City and man I really love it up there. I go up there pretty often and catch tons of beautiful dinkers on dries, but this time my average fish well much larger than ever, not huge but my best on this river. Nailed the bigger ones on nymphs and lost one th...
