Never fished the American. Thinking about wading it this saturday early AM. Ive been doing some reading around and looked through the Kiene Forum. Anyone have any advice on flies for this time of year?

Are you nymphing or swinging? Either way be careful with wading with the flows at 5000. Plus the water is off color. Work the edges and softer water.

If you swing use flashy bigger flies. Nymphing stick with egg and bright attracted patterns.

Thanks tied eggs last night and tonight. Any areas I should avoid due to fish on redds? Is the sailor bar area filled with redds?

Best of my knowledge, yes, Upper Sunrise-Sailor Bar is the primary steelhead spawning habitat on the American.
