Can anybody recommend any good streams that are open to fishing that are within a 2 hour or so drive of Sac.? I like Putah, but that can get kind of old sometimes. Any help is much appreciated. Oh and Happy holidays/ Merry Christmas (Gotta be politically correct!)

Hello all,
I figured I would post today's report since I had some spare time. The weather was overcast, no rain and spots of sunshine here and there. I got on the water a couple hours later than I wanted (around 10a), so I started at #4 and fished the ox-bow abit upstream...
I've been hearing quite a bit about beads as egg imitations for about a year now. Has anyone had any experience with them? When using beads, the conventional technique is to put the bead on the tippet an inch or so above a hook. What type/size hooks are normal for this type of setup?&...
howdy,
today there were overcast skies w/ patches of sun, no rain. Fish were every were at the bridge, no shortage. Hooked 3 landed 0. The flies the trout were going for were WD-40, Zebra nymph, and the other pattern they were goin for were eggs.
Saw a bunch of folks steppin all over a redd, told em to w...
I'm headed up to the Nimbus dam in the morning for a last run poke at the salmon. There should be a few fresh fish with the recent full moon. I'll report back.....
Well I played hookie from work and spent a couple of hours on the creek this morning.
With all the rain we had Thursday it didn't seem to have any inpact on the water levels or clarity but it might have hampered my fish catching abilities...yeah yeah thats my excuse.
Lots of Hooded and Common Mer...
A friend and myself after a fishing day decided to go look below the deversioin dam and see if there were any salmon hold'n up (because of all the hear say) and sure enough there was atlest 10 to 15 huge salmon splashing around, and they were probily in the 25 to 30+ " range. It was just a awso...
hoping to make it up to putah tommorrow, weather permitting. and was curious if anyone's been out the last few days and hows the water clarity, since this is my first winter on the creek was actually curious to know if putah gets blown out easily, it dosent look like a creek that would. hopfully th...
I fished on Wednesday in the bridge area and had a wonderful time. It was heavy overcast and lots of bugs were out, and the fish were eating. I used a caddis pattern as an indicator with a small nymph (brassie, midge, bwo, etc.) about 18" under it with a tiny split, and fished faster water.&n...
Was considering fishing Putah on Monday but wasn't sure how the rain would impact fishing. So far the flows haven't changed much. Would be very interested in opinions of those with more experience fishing the creek after storms such as this. Appreciate any comments.
If any of you-all are interested,a very good non-profit org by the name of Putah Creek Council does alot of very good things for the lower Putah creek, meaning from Diversion dam, downstream to the delta. They sometimes are involved in projects in the inter dam area meaning the areas that we all typica...
Thanks for the advice on fishing Putah Creek. We did a lot of exploring and found some pretty good water. My buddy and I fished areas 1, 2 and 3 yesterday for about six hours. We caught three on red WD-40s and zebra midges (size 18). Two were 12-inchers and one was a nice 19-inch...
I had a pretty good day at the creek this morning, above access #2. Only fished for about 3 hours but I landed 3, and lost 2. I was happy that I finally found a spot where I didn't see any redds. So I knew i was in for some good fishing. Here is a pic of the 17 " bow I caught right when I was lea...
Took the canoe out today today with the roommate...puttered around the top of solano for a net total of one strike. Then moved up below the dam. Saw some fisherman fishing above the resort there, seemed to be doing ok when we went by. When we made it up to the pond the move was worth it....
Planning to fish the lower yuba this weekend, was considering the american as well but i think the yuba will be a little less crowded. I have never fished this river before, i have never fished this water and need some info, as i will be heading up there with no more then a map and whatever info. i can gather...
What is your favorite combination when using a dropper. I like to use a red X-Tend Abody Midge on top with a hare's ear as the dropper. I think the red attracts the fish. I get most of my fish on the dropper. Good Fishing to all.
I probably should make this its own topic, (rather than post it on the yuba river one). I am thinking about trying my hand at steelhead this winter...any suggestions? I am thinking about heading out to the yuba this saterday, but I have never had that great of luck out there, I have only fished it a...
I thought this may be interesting topic. The question is what 5 dryflys and what 5 wets would you use if those were the only 10 you could use in putah creek? Any of you guys ever stop and pickup some fly's at the winter's store? I got a few red midges last weekend and everyone single one of them startin...
After reading your greats posts practically every day for a couple of years now, I am finally going to fish Putah with a friend on Thursday. Any suggestions for a newbie to this area? I believe there are five major areas to park, but any pointers on where to start and a coupl...
I have been fishing Cache Creek off of Hwy 16 a lot this Fall. Pretty much all I catch are a fairly dark colored greenish fish that look very much like trout, but aren't. Their body type and fins do strongly resemble trout. They prefer the more still water holes....
Has anyone ever fished the Arroyo Seco, below the footbridge? The regs say it opens December 1st.
Above the footbridge, 3.5 miles upstream of the parking lot, is open for fishing during the summer. I went hiking there a few summers ago and brought a rod in my pack, i...
I fished behind the Resort for two days this weekend and caught nothing! I got some good hits from some smaller trout using Blue Dunns. I actually saw a small greyish fly buzz across the water and get taken down by a small trout. My fly looks much like the real fly. They were jum...
I caught and landed my biggest fish yet! A 21" Brown that must of gone for at least 4-5 punds maybe a little more (this maight be small to others, but for me it was my 15 minutes of fame!). I caught him in Almanore on a crawler, yes, I was using a spinner setup and not my fly rod, but I like to fish light and...
Im a novice when it comes to knowing when and where fish spawn and that seems to be a concern on this page for this time of year. So a few questions are what kind of water and or bedding on the bottom does this occure (also areas on the creek to avoid). Also Ive caught some rainbows that are a real bright...
Hit the creek with my brother from 8am to 12am. only managed 1 fish at about 10inches. saw alot of what looked like pre-spawn behavior so we stayed away from that area. the creeks lookin really pretty now, it was great to finally get out again.
Good luck everybody, Clayton
Went out today from 8-430. Started out down by access 3, didn't have any luck. Moved up below th resort just above the fast water. There were 10 to 12 fish in the 20+ range just setting in the riffle. I tried everything I had, dries, nymphs. They look, but no takers. They would occassionally hit on t...
