Well I went to Putah with my buddy on Sunday and we both agree "what a beautifull area". We arived at about 7am and parked in the lot at #5. We fished around #5 and made our way about 1/4 - 1/2 mile upstream using the path that's not really a path it's more like a jungle path. We were jumping over tree stumps climbing over rocks just to try to find some different fishing holes. We each had a few bites but nothing stuck. I had a fish hit my strike indicator so I am counting that as one of my bites. It was almost noon and we were going to fish for a while longer but my buddy fell in the water so we decided to leave. We both treated our waders when we got home to make sure not to infest other waters with the mud snails. When we were leaving we saw 2 guys with spinning rods getting ready to fish off the shore. I thought you were not allowed to use bait or spinning gear in Putah this time of year? The whole time im pretty sure we were fishing between #5 and #4 parking areas. Are there any other decent places to fish at Putah. What happens if we keep driving up the road are there some other decent places to try further up the road?
bro you have only seen the tip of the ice burg, there are many many places above 5 to fish. from 5 up to the damn, its like 4 miles worth. not all of it is great fishin but there are many great spots. as far as what is legal and not. after nov 15th its lures and flies with no barbs and no bait, what gear you use doesnt matter.
dont worry digger0038 it will all come in due time. if you get the chance try to hook up with a veteran member on here and fish with him or HER. you will learn a lot faster than just fishing on your own. putah is a world of its own, a class above all others. atleast in this area. what works on other streams doesnt always work on putah. but if you can master putah, you can fish anywhere. i was lucky enough to meet jt on my first day. he is indoors now with his new baby but he knows this creek very well. the captain my personal fishin buddy, knows this place by heart, he used to bait fish it then moved to flies. i fish with him as much as our schedule allows and always get into fish. i also had the opportunity to fish with jt, matt r, flygirl1 whos cookies are the bomb, lilwhippersnapper, sorry if i am leaving anyone else out, oh ya lahontan (your gettin there bud) and emerger. all great guys and gal, and know the water well. i am still new to this stream and board first time ever fishin putah was aug 5th, but i cant complain when i fish it. i have had my skunk days but then other days have been absolutley great.
dont know what your schedule is for tomorrow but ill be on the creek crack o dawn. i will be joined by sk60 around 8-9 or so, but you are more than welcome to join me if you would like. i always like to help those that are just starting out fly fishing especially fly fishing putah. well let me know. ill pm you my number.

it takes a while to learn the putah. i've been fishing it for a year and a half with one fish total, but i'm only a teenager. adulats seem to catch on faster.
Ohhhh I wish I would have had a chance to check the message board sooner. I would have loved to go out with you guys. I guess I will have to wait till next time. I think me and my buddy may give it another go the week after next. I have most days free I may even be able to sneak in a few hours one moring during the week. Anyway I will keep trying and hopefully I will see some of you out there one of these days.
After this morning fishing with him, I think Brian is guide material (if you can get him to slow down) as well as a downright old school gentleman. Thanks, Brian for the whirlwind tour this morning; I hadn't fished those spots for a while and ir was good to see they hadn't changed. Did someone steal your Camaro, or did you somehow beat me back to the cars? The 156 flows were tougher wading than 91, but are obviously better for the spawners/prespawners. They are such magnificent fish.
Oh great, Now he's goin around showing people my spots ! HaHa. Still have a few I've showed nobody. Just playin with ya Brian. Maybe it's time to take a machetti and a saw down there and make some new honey holes !
In his defense, they weren't new to me. He might have shown me some of your spots if I could have kept up with him, but they are still safe for now. Other than we were on Putah Creek, my lips are sealed.
Hey Cap ... don't forget to install the camo trapped door!
I'm with you SK60, I fished with BC once ... lost in a blaze of thorny thickets!

And a gentleman-he picked my a** up out of some of that dust now converted to mud along the banks and slopes after a spill AND used his extended height to pluck my fly from an overhanging berry bramble in water too deep for my short legs to wade into.
it was a pleasure pickin you up steve. i hope when i get a lil WISER and i fall on my ars that a young gentlemen like myself will do the same.
