One of our fellow FF from Corte Madera reports in the "Tightlines" column of Fly Fisherman magazine the experience of a new invasive and threatening pest species on Putah near the bridge. He called it Americanus anus, more literally, American a**. It crowds and chokes out other fisherman and is apparently immune to gentle suggestion or stern lecturing and may respond with abusive phraseology.
Darra, I agree with Chemdoc. You find the fish, you can fish for them as long as you want in a Putah Creek setting, i.e. a nice fun that really only has room for one person.
I do have a little problem on the steelhead rivers when fishing a riffle with others. When all fisherman rotate top to bottom and then start over, everybody has a chance at the best holding water. When one person stops and doesn't move, it causes the others to have to get out, walk around and then get back in below the stationary guy/women.
Am I being narrow minded by comparing one setting with the other?
My son is younger generation, 30 years old. He is very sensitive to other fisherman's space because he was taught right. It also seems to help that he can catch fish anywhere.
So, the lesson is education/conversation. It seems like everybody on this board understands this which is great. Onced we get everybody trained, what we will talk about?
I think you are right about the steelhead fishing being different Waters. I was talking with a friend just yesterday and he said the same thing. I haven't fished much for steelhead and never with a crowd, so I was unfamiliar with that situation. Actually, I don't like crowds so fishing the Sierras on a secluded stream is more to my liking. Plus, I am unlikely to hook someone in the ear with a poor cast, so I save myself some embarrassment.
