Has anyone read some of his books ? I was thinking about purchasing a few, trout bum diary's, standing in a river waving a stick, or death taxes and leaky waders. Is it good reading material ?
I enjoyed "Sex, Death and Fly Fishing". I'd even read more of his books but my library doesn't carry them. I have to say that I am really enjoying the book I am currently reading--Charles Ritz's "A Fly Fisher's Life". If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend it.
I pretty much own every one of his books. Gierach is so funny. I look over at my book shelf and I've probably read every book 4-5 times. I recommend all of the above
I completely agree with Cole...my Gierach books have too been read numerous times.
Captain, Flyfishing the High Country is another of his books to consider. His chapters on high lakes, small streams, and prospecting have aided me tremendously in the Sierra. The few pages describing strategies on beaver ponds according to LaFontaine is "groundbreaking work" ...I recommend the 2004 copyright for his take on fly fishing in 1984 vs. 2004.

This guy is amazing ! At times i feel like i am reading a book about myself. It's so easy to indetify what John is writing about. If you have not read his books and are serious about fly fishing you must read them. This guy is a fisherman man, Not a purist snob.
