I arrived at putah at 6 a.m made it to one of my favorite spots by flashlight, Had to wait a bit to fish due to darkness. Started out a little slow, Fish were rising all over. I started using midges and the fish wanted nothing to do with em today. After awhile of trying every midge i have, and several other patterns that have proven worthy on putah and nothing would trigger a strike, But fish were rising everywhere, Frustrating but ya gotta love it. I figured they were after caddis emerger's so i tryed several fox pupah patterns, Then i dug deep into one of the fly box's and found somethin that i think may be the ticket. And it was ! several fish caught today, a few more lost. Fish of the day, a 20 inch hog that made some amazing runs and a FAT 18 incher soon after. I included a pic. of the fly because it's not a pattern i'd normally associate with putah but it always pay to try different thing. The wind was very annoying. the bite was hot from sunrise to about 10;30 a.m. I almost forgot the most important part, I was swingin that fly, Great way to fish ! I'll be out there again tommorrow.
nice bro, way to get into those pigs. cant wait till friday. hopefully we will have some good weather, and no wind. what is the name of that fly, ill see if i cant pick some up when i order my flies tonight.

Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
Nice looking bug Cap'n. I was out Sat also and I think I was fishing just south of where you probably were. I had the same experience with the midges. Nothing to do with them. The only action I had was on smaller olive may patterns. I did meet Otter however. Nice to meet you and great fly swap. Thanks again. See you out there.
Sounds like you had a nice day Captain, great report. I like swinging wet flies too... And I bet that in place like Putah where the fish have seen it all, it pays to try flies everybody else aren't fishing...
I was out there Sat. too, not much action tough, despite lots of raises at my favorite spot. Caught 1 in the morning on an E/C caddis, missed a few more, caught another one swinging a soft hackle and then nothing until I met a gentleman who was slamming them... He gave me three nice flies (a parachute and an emerger baetis, and a nymph that he suggested I keep as a model for when I start tying) and a few tips... later managed to catch 2 on the parachute (including 1 when I wasn't even watching, my fly was swigning in the current as I was wading across), missed a few more takes and then a train passed and hit the emerger trailer... gone in a second. If you read this, thanks again for everything, was very nice talking to you and watching you catching fish. Always cool for a rookie to learn from a pro.
Nice job Captain. It is hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like an old school wet fly and fairly large. Bugger has a good point on trying flies other people aren't using. If you tie flies it is fun to create new patterns to see if they catch fish.
Nice to meet you Cole. I have never thought of using a blue midge. Thanks for the flies it looks like that olive mayfly pattern should be deadly.
Most of the fish I landed yesterday were on the old pheasant tail, hares ear emerger, size 16.
From the LaFontaine Old School: swimming an EH caddis wet with a little weight also works on PC, but the responding fish tend to be on the small side, but you can cover a lot of water pretty quickly.
I think that fly was about a 14, Its alot of fun to swing those wet's. Today the fish wouldnt touch it. Only 2 fish to hand today a 16" holdover and a nice fat little 12" wild guy, Also hooked a freight train, This guy had serious weight to him, I had some line out hanging down and it caught on my boot and snnapped 4x off like it was nothin ! The fish i did land came on a #20 brassie. Still quit a few fish rising thourghout the day, Not sure to what. I was up stream a bit watching a kid named Darra fish, Im sure you guys have seen the name here, Man this kid can handle a fly rod exceptionally well, Way to go Darra, I was the guy fishin a bit up from you. No pics. this weekend, sorry guys, yesterday forgot the camera today brought camera but no memory stick .
