No New Posts Browns (Preview)
I was just wondering when the browns come back down into solano or if there already in there. Also what flies work best and what type of line we should use. Intermediate, shooting head, etc. Thanks for any advice - Mike

Went out this evening, tried around the island, and up stream a bit, and didnt catch anything.  Saw some small caddis flys and BWOs coming up, but not in numbers, and no risers . Anyone else out this weekend?

No New Posts Flows (Preview)
I had a couple of hours between classes, so I headed up to the creek to check out the flows today. The creek has dropped quite a bit but is still high.  With the receeding water you can see the drastic change that the high water has had on the appearance of the creek.  Some areas are totally diffe...

Hi,  I fished Putah during the late 60's and early 70's.  The fly fishing bug has hit me again.  As a newbie,  could you suggest 3 fly patterns and sizes to start my collection?  Thanks, Dennis

No New Posts Putah on 1/16 (Preview)
Well, I headed out this morning for a couple of hours.  The good news is there were no crowds and I didn't drown.  The bad news is that the water is still fast and off color and I didn't catch any fish. There was one man and his son and nephew out by the bridge at 8 am when I arrived, but they only st...

Headed out today, fished 4 and 5, had one thing that might have been a hit, hard to tell, other than that, nothing but mud and one decent sized branch. Havnt really figured out a good tactic for the putah at high water, somehow water that quick and deep, with no boat throws me of...

I fished the creek today with KHB.  The flows are still HIGH.  Most of the creek is inaccessible, but there are a few fishable spots.  We fished from the mouth of the little creek (across from the resort) upstream towards the dam.  I landed two fish, one 16" a...

No New Posts Identifying Wild and Stocked Fish (Preview)
I notice that many posts enumerate the number of wild vs stocked fish caught in a particular outing, and I am interested in learning how one can confidently distinguish between the two.  It isn't difficult if the fish is quite large or quite small. but those mid-range ones are a challenge. ...

No New Posts Favorite flys on Putah (Preview)
I am new to the area. I just moved down from Rexburg, ID were I fished once a week on Henry's Fork. I am looking for some good trout fishing and it seems like the putah is the best around. So I am looing for some of the veteran putah fishers favorite flys to use on the creek so I can tie a few up before I go. Thank...

No New Posts Shad (Preview)
On occasion my father told me that when the weather gets like this and the dam is spewing water from the culvert, large schools of shad get caught in the the vortex and hit the creek above the bridge, if you are a shad guy, it might be worth heading up above the bridge with some shad gear, and poke a few of thos...

Anyone want to throw some dates around when you think we may be able to get out there and fish?  I saw it flowing @ 7000cfs + this morning, and coming down ever so slightly, sure would like to get up there again. Having not fished the creek previously to this year for a bout 20yrs,&nbs...

I went up to Putah today just to see how bad it was, and yes, it looks bad.  I happened to follow Bono as he checked out some of the areas, so he will probably have a detailed report later.  I did post some pictures on Kiene's message board, so those of you too far away to get to the creek can check...

To Greg or any other creek expert. What can we expect from the creek after so much rain and high flows? Will we have to wait for awhile to let the creek settle and let the flows go down? How long might that take? I'm new to the creek and I don't know it real well. Is it just a few day's or longer? Any commen...

I fished the creek on thrusday in-between the rain storms, the water had  pretty good color till just below the bridge then turned into a mud puddle, I coudn't fish with confidence in the dirty water so I joined the crowd fishing the water around the bridge.  A few guys were catching s...

No New Posts Flows are way up this morning (Preview)
I just noticed that the flows had increased substantially this morning from 75 to 154 CFS.  Is this an indication that water is being released from the dam (e.g. the glory hole has overflowed)? My brother and I were considering a trip out to tomorrow afternoon, but I am worried that it might be b...

I was tying some streamers today, and as i went to place them in my streamer box, i couldn't find it. After looking all over the house i have concluded that it was somehow left at Putah Creek. I fished there on christmas day and did pull a wooly bugger out of the box at my car before heading to the stream. I bel...

No New Posts Spawners (Preview)
Fished up by the bridge on Saturday morning. It was very crowded, with probably 10 guys in the hole just below the bridge. There were a number of guys, probably 6, tossing flies for the spawners sitting at the end of the run. Guys would just stand there for an hour casting for just one spawning fish till it...

Hello to all- I am a new member to this sight and have enjoyed reading your postings. I'm sure your advise will help me this weekend on the putah. I just moved back to San Mateo after living/fishing the last 12yrs in Oregon. I am going to miss it very much (the fishing is superb), but look fo...

In the market for a pontoon. But I keep hearing how great kayaks are. Can any of you share your thoughts and experiences on these two. Areas fished would be rivers, such as the american or yuba and obviously lakes and ponds. Thanks, The Sultan of Sod.

I got out on the water around 10am. Just fished around the bridge. Two small bows on olive WD-40's about size 16. I was on my way up to Nevada City. Fished along the Yuba on the way home. On the yuba, the fish were taking size 8 golden stone nymphs in about 14"-22" of water. It was really exciting to watch the f...
