I got out for a couple of hours Tuesday and today.  I caught several fish each time, but it does seem to be slower than last week.  There was a little rain this morning, but the water is still very clear.

All but one fish was caught on a size 16 olive Mercer's Micromayfly.  My top fly (a BWO nymph) was ignored by all takers.  I did hook a nice olive colored caddis nymph, so I tried a fox's poopah and got one on that.  I would think that caddis hatches shouldn't be too far off.  I did hook one nice fish today but he eventually broke my tippet and took the bottom fly.  I've had that same fly tied on for several trips, so it may have finally weakened the tippet.  I guess I should retie once in a while.

Hey Phil, I just joined the board today. I ran into you on Sunday the 4th, I was fishing with 1 buddy. You offered to share a hole with us for a bit and we chatted. Nice to meet you and swap info. I'm sure I'll see you out there again. Is your avatar photo from Pyramid? We do an annual trip out there every year, we're just starting to plan it now.

Hey Rich,

I enjoyed talking with you on Sunday and was happy to share.  The best days are when everyone catches fish.  Yes, that is Pyramid.  My buddy Andan really likes fishing there and I went with him once in 2005 and again in 2006.  That was my first fish caught there, beginners luck at 29 inches.

I am more of a stream fisherman, but sometimes everything is blown our down here and there are big fish in Pyramid.  I usually get to Putah once or twice a week when the flows are fishable.  Last winter that was just about never, but they have been good this season.  I'm sure we'll run into each other again.

Phil you are definitely right that the fishing was better last week. The water was also a little higher, making them more comfortable in areas that are too low for them right now. Those caddis larva are all over the place, I usually use a midge pattern, but no doubt will easily be mistaken for a caddis. Thanks for the report

Yeah, I'm more of a stream guy myself but the brother of the guy I was with on Sunday really likes to go for big fish in lakes. We do an annual trip to Pyramid in April and then to Eagle in November. I'll keep an eye out for you at Putah.

Rich
