Made it all the way up to the Trinity only to catch a handful of smolts and a 8" brown. The big fish were definitely there, as well as huge crowds of both wading and boat anglers. Had a big fella on for a split second and lost him as soon as he rocketed upstream and into the air. There were alot of salmo...
Im headed up to Redbluff monday and tuesday. I hear the lower Sac runs though it. I have never fished it. Can anyone give me some pointers on flies and where to enter the river? I will be wadding of course. Thanks for any input.
I lost my two-sided plastic box with over 100 flies. Nymphs on one side and dry flies on the other. Left the zippered pocket unzipped in rough terrain! Please keep a dozen or so and send me the rest. FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS GARY from Vallejo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Edited by...
I looked at the govt's website before fishing yesterday and it appeared to signal around 120 cfs. When I got to PC the flows appeared much lower than this, maybe around 80cfs. Looking at the bank and the rocks, the water looked as if it had dropped at least 6" from the previous day, probably more....
Fished Putah for about 2 hours from 430 to dark yesterday. Landed four (all on a dry fly) had six on. Good time for two hours and a twenty minute drive. Edit: all were 12 inches. -- Edited by georgek on Sunday 30th of October 2011 10:29:21 AM
I've got a little Honda Fit that averages 35-37 miles per gallon. Fold the rear seats down and its like a tiny mini-van. Plenty of room for waders, boots etc. The wife has informed me I need to go fishing so I'm going to head up to the Pit and probably fish upstream from the power lines just outside of Big B...
Cliff brought it to my attn that there is a golf cart half-submerged and pinned down under a tree at #3 at putah creek . I want to cut away the tree and remove the cart before its battery or steering unit leaks and pollutes the creek in some way. The tree is fairly large so I will need two chain saws in good ru...
I first want to start off by giving a big THANKS to SK60 and those that helped out on 10/28 for the weed removal session on the creek with DFG. It was a last minute decision from DFG to do this, and a last minute scramble from SK60 to make this happen, and in only a few days he rallied the troops and got it done...
Went for a little drive in the rain yesterday for an itch to do some fishing on my favorite river, and it paid off well. For the most of the time it was raining but there were a few breaks through out the day. I was set on this river for a certain hatch but the cold weather kept them sleeping but midges and an epi...
You've completed almost 60 online forms since the flows started down in September and almost all have reported fish caught (mostly 12" or under, but some larger fish are starting to show). Thank you for your efforts!! and please keep them coming!!!
I just got my grandpa's old bamboo flyrod labeled "steelhead/Salmon" out of storage. I was thinking about using it this winter. It looks to be in almost perfect condition. Quality looks good. It comes with two tips, all three pieces are 4.5 feet long. There is no signature, weight, or...
The Pit was a bust, just didn't want to spend the gas money so hit up the Feather instead for a couple of hours this morning. One pike minnow/squafish or whatever they call em about 16" One red sided sucker or whatever they call em...about 20" or so One nice steelie that took me for a tailwalk an...
Getting ready to snatch up my first switch rod. Leaning towards the TFO deer creek. Anyone have any experience with this rod? One of my buddies has a Beulah and another has a R.B Meiser. Those may be my other two rods to check out. Planning on running a skagit short with some Mow tips.
This weekend I am going to fish Putah Creek for the first time. Out of curiousity, what are the best flies working right now? of course I will bring my go-to flys, however I dont know what to expect on this river. If I am correct, there is a zero limit rule? Even better. I have heard good things about Putah, b...
I've been lucky to go out a couple days in a row in the late afternoon. There is a lot more surface action than I ever anticipated or noted before. Some little guys were literally flying out of the water! I could not see anything actually hatching so I assume it was midge emergers. A little further down the...
I pulled this report from the Redding Fly shop......Some changes have occurred over the past two years. All anglers should be aware of the new increased flows in Pit reaches 3, 4, 5. Pit 3 now has a minimum flow of 280 to 350 cfs which is up from 150 cfs. Pit 4 now has a minimum flow between 350 and 450 cfs whic...
I have an Albright EXS 13'6" 4pc. 6wt spey rod for sale. This rod retailed for $525.00 and I am selling it for $175.00 On top of that the rod is unused and with the exception of some dust it's in perfect condition. Rod comes with original triangular rod tube and 4 section rod sock. I will consid...
I fished the Putah today. The flows have been steady for 2 days just under 100 CFS. I figured that the trout may be settled in to feed before the spawn... The first stop was a ziltch. The second was a skunk but the third spot was worth it. I had three to the hand mostly in the 8-10" range on a sparkle p...
Fished the 850 cfs flows with MX19 and Dr. Chris below the 20 bridge. Man, what skinny water. Salmon on redds with their backs out of the water, riffles so shallow the boat got hung up twice, normal high water mark over 3 feet above the water level, pulling the boat back up rather than rowing to repeat a dri...
Here is my tip of the day for Putah. The last six feet of your setup are the most important. You could go out and buy a brand new Sage The One rig it up with a brand new Abel reel and hit the creek with 4x and 5x mono. You might catch a fish or two, but you will probably catch a few more with a 90 degree setup and Rio...
I spent last Thursday to Sunday in Bridgeport with 3 other guys for a Fall fishout. We fished the East Walker on Thursday and Friday. We caught a good number of fish but nothing of much size as compared to past Fall trips up there. That report seemed consistent with other fishermen we talked to on the wate...
Hello,
I am new to CA, been fly fishing for a few years now and would love to meet some fellow anglers and learn some of the local streams. I typically enjoy fishing small streams, wade fishing but I do have a canoe and Jeep to haul it with. Can and will drive someone who would be willing to show me around. I...
does anyone know of any good camp sites (with showers) in the truckee area . I have a friend from high school coming up from LA next month and we are going ff maybe in truckee but I need showers thats just me . has anyone ever camped in truck . Donner state park ius alleady booked up any adv...
I'm going camping this weekend up to Gualala, right on the banks of the river and I'd hate to go all that way and not wet my line. I've never been steelhead fising before, is it too early? any pointers for a rookie? is my 6 weight rod too light? All the DFG regs say is artificial lures, barbless hooks, and ze...
Long time lurker here, thought this was worth a mention. I fished nearish the bridge for several hours today (caught one that shook the hook just as my net went in the water, still a great day though!). As I was leaving I saw a guy on the Canyon Creek Resort side fishing with spinning gear and a bobber. I did...
GRASS VALLEY October 14, 2011 - An innovative water project to improve fish passage in Auburn Ravine Creek is now under way in the City of Lincoln, it was reported at this week's (Oct. 12) meeting of the Nevada Irrigation District Board of Directors. NID Chief Engineer Gary King said work began Monday...
I believe Nic started this thread last year and, as always, it generated a maelstorm of differing opinions from "stay off the redds to"stay off the creek" altogether. I am convinced that a number of folks were so intimidated that they did give up fishing during the winter. Starting...
