Greetings to friends and colleagues:

Its been a quiet summer on the Putah Creek Trout front, but Fall is just around the corner when lower flows will allow us to access the Creek again for volunteer activities. Our first volunteer opportunity is the annual Creek cleanup that coincides with the state wide waterway clean up sponsored by the Coastal Commission. This takes place Saturday September 21. We will pick up trash from Access 5 up to the dam parking lots. Info below and on the linked spreadsheet below

Meet at Access 5 Parking lot by 9 AM

5 gallon bucket helpful, but not required

Suggest garden gloves or similar; we will have some vinyl gloves

Waders are optional; most cleaning is along bank, trails or parking lot. Sturdy shoes needed.

A barbecue lunch will be served at east end of  Access 3 around noon.

Volunteers will receive a PCT cap or Coastal Commission T shirt

Children are very welcome, under 12 years must have adult accompany them

Waiver forms provided on site

Any reason to believe that flows will have been dropped by the time this event takes place? It seems that the flows usually drop around the second week of October.

To all you guys coming out to lend a hand on the 21st... do any of you have a large truck? There is a cal king mattress across from access #1 that needs a ride to the dump.

I'm 94.35% certain I will be there with a full size truck on Sat. Odds are I can deal with the mattress.

Sorry I'm not going to be there, but a 4 day fishing pass from my wife is a once in a lifetime event and tomorrow I leave for 4 days fishing up north.

Many thanks to the 18 hearty souls who braved the freakish rain storm on Saturday to collect 150 lbs of trash and 30 lbs of recyclables.

Special thanks to Kari, Brian, Matt, Dr. Rick, David who joined us for the first time. Thanks Rick for hauling those tires to the landfill. Also thanks to our reliables: Richard, Sara, Mitch, Alan, Mark, Dylan, Larry, Dr Dan, Clay, Finn and the board: Cliff, Chris, Chris and myself.

Illegal items recovered included full cat food cans modified for chumming, and a handful of bait containers; either the evidence is being carried out, tossed into the underbrush, or, hopefully, bait fishing is down.

One very young poacher happily posed for a picture of his 20"+ catch/keep. This pic was forwarded to our local warden.

Big thanks to you guys. I feel a bit guilty I haven't made it to one in awhile. Maybe the cat food was meant for attracting crawdads ? I would like to think so anyways.

I took the pic but I will not post it for the sake of another mass thread. The pic was sent to our local fish and wildlife warden. I also emailed Canyon Creek about it. The little boy who was holding the fish did not catch it. His dad or brother caught it using worms. I went and had a chat with him about it and then went and called the warden.

The weird thing is that the fish looked like a spawner. Dark colors and white patches. I also got a pic sent to me from a buddy who caught a really big fish today and that one too looked like a spawned color fish. Weird.

Thanks B for providing additional info. Many of us have had a similar experience on the Creek. I believe the local warden's contact info has been posted previously, but lets see if we can get a sticky posted so its always at the top of the page, along with the Cal-Tip info.

From what I saw on Sat they are prepping to spawn early again this year. I saw 15-16 fish all stacked up at one of the popular spawning sites, some already in pairs, all vividly colored. Unfortunately this site was also heavily weeded over.
