No New Posts FIshed the creek dawn to dusk Sunday (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 1 545

Got rained on, got sucked into mud holes, got skunked, got scratched to bits, lost a small fortune in flies and leaders, lost a beautiful fish right at my feet, lost my sunglasses, got rained on a bit more, and enjoyed every minute of it. Headed up there with a neighbor who like myself is returning to fl...

Ok, 2 years ago I started a thread about gloves, what kind you guys have used, what is best for warmth, waterproof, function, etc.  I'm curious to see if there have been any advancements in gloves since Nov. 2009.  I am currently still using my Orvis fleece mitten/convertible fingerless ones which ar...

No New Posts As the flows have gone down..so has my fish count. (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 20 1487

Hello, first time posting, started fishing Putah this summer after a 20 year break from fishing all together.     Seems like the holes/riffles that I have been fishing for the past two months aren't producing the fish for me.  I know they are there, I can see them jumping out of the water.     I suspect tha...

A very long time ago I wanted to fish the Russian River for Steelhead.  This is the year to start.  I was told to use shooting heads and swing the flies. What flies work? Can you nymph? Where is the best place to start. When do the Steelhead make there run? Thanks Dave

No New Posts Parr markings and "young of the year" (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 4 731

I have noticed a lot of young fish in the creek compared to last year.  (Ed Note: maybe because I am actually catching some fish this year).  I have heard that parr marks usually dissapear ~ 1 year old.  What I have observed is fish with very different size having similar parr marks.  Are these from diffe...

Two interesting things I saw today on PC:   Richard doing a donut in his truck in the parking lot below the bridge... What a way to make an entrance!  I don't think I could pull that off in my front wheel drive wagon....    A 4/4 buck and his lady friend while wading down at access #5.  I think we were BOTH surp...

Made it all the way up to the Trinity only to catch a handful of smolts and a 8" brown.  The big fish were definitely there, as well as huge crowds of both wading and boat anglers.  Had a big fella on for a split second and lost him as soon as he rocketed upstream and into the air.  There were alot of salmo...

No New Posts Gov Putah Creek flows site off? (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 3 652

I looked at the govt's website before fishing yesterday and it appeared to signal around 120 cfs.  When I got to PC the flows appeared much lower than this, maybe around 80cfs.  Looking at the bank and the rocks, the water looked as if it had dropped at least 6" from the previous day, probably more....

No New Posts 1/2 n 1/2 On gas (Preview) HOV/Carpooling Fishing Trips 10 3841

I've got a little Honda Fit that averages 35-37 miles per gallon.  Fold the rear seats down and its like a tiny mini-van.  Plenty of room for waders, boots etc. The wife has informed me I need to go fishing so I'm going to head up to the Pit and probably fish upstream from the power lines just outside of Big B...

No New Posts Help me remove the golf-cart from #3!! (Preview) Conservation 8 2509

Cliff brought it to my attn that there is a golf cart half-submerged and pinned down under a tree at #3 at putah creek . I want to cut away the tree and remove the cart before its battery or steering unit leaks and pollutes the creek in some way. The tree is fairly large so I will need  two chain saws  in good ru...

No New Posts 11/1 and a big thanks (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 0 633

I first want to start off by giving a big THANKS to SK60 and those that helped out on 10/28 for the weed removal session on the creek with DFG. It was a last minute decision from DFG to do this, and a last minute scramble from SK60 to make this happen, and in only a few days he rallied the troops and got it done...

No New Posts Rainy Day (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 10 1062

Went for a little drive in the rain yesterday for an itch to do some fishing on my favorite river, and it paid off well. For the most of the time it was raining but there were a few breaks through out the day. I was set on this river for a certain hatch but the cold weather kept them sleeping but midges and an epi...

I just got my grandpa's old bamboo flyrod labeled "steelhead/Salmon" out of storage.  I was thinking about using it this winter.  It looks to be in almost perfect condition. No New Posts First Timer at Putah (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 9 1042

This weekend I am going to fish Putah Creek for the first time. Out of curiousity, what are the best flies working right now? of course I will bring my go-to flys, however I dont know what to expect on this river. If I am correct, there is a zero limit rule? Even better. I have heard good things about Putah, b...

No New Posts Putah on the rise (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 4 893

I've been lucky to go out a couple days in a row in the late afternoon. There is a lot more surface action than I ever anticipated or noted before. Some little guys were literally flying out of the water! I could not see anything actually hatching so I assume it was midge emergers. A little further down the...
