hi. I am new to fishing Putah Creek and wanted to get some advice. I am specifically interested in fishing the Lake Solano area where fish may be taken. I do respect the water and ecology but I also enjoy a fresh fish dinner. Are there any special regulations that I need to be aware of? I catch both trout and...

It was my lucky day on the Yuba.  Started out slow.  Caught a few fish down by Hammond moved upriver and caught this weird looking fish.  I am guessing it was blown downriver out of Deer Creek.

No New Posts Is the flow report correct? (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 5 1022

It looks to me like the USGS PC flow report is stuck again.  The flow graph has been too steady over the last week.  Has anybody been out there to verify?  Would appreciate some feedback as I am thinking about giving the creek one more try before shutting down to give the fish room to spawn.

No New Posts Finally got out to the creek this Wed. (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 9 1840

It's been a busy Autumn for me, but I finally got out to the creek this Wed.  Was it ever crowded for the middle of the week.  There were cars at almost every good spot so you had to pick around to find fish.  I have a lot of sympathy for those who can only fish the weekends! The fishing started out slow.  Got gr...

No New Posts Advice on reels (Preview) Equipment and Product Reviews 3 3381

Hey guys, Time to upgrade my reel.  I'm fishing a 9' Reddington 5wt.  Two reels in my price range have caught my eye, but I don't know which (if either) is a good choice.  The first is the Ross CLA.  The second is the Sage 4200.  From what I have been reading, both are good choices (which makes me say get the R...

No New Posts Russian River (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 3 1534

I have been reading conflicting reports on how good the steelhead fishing is on the Russian River, and when to go.  Am I wasting my time going this week?  I was going to start at the Wohler Bridge and work my way down.  Any input from people who have fished the Russian, or have good knowledge on steelhead i...

I fished Putah Creek for the first time earlier today. Caught 5, but none bigger than about 12". Had a bit of adventure finding fishable water, but, once I did, it was a fun day. Came from work last Tuesday. Had laptop on floor. It was semi-tucked under seat, but it was visible - (I know, dummy me). Car locked with windows cracked about an inch. Someone pulled the window down on passenger side (and ruined the mechanism) and took the laptop. Live and learn, but I'm reeling about...

Decided that before I went back to school I needed to get after some trout on a small Sierra fly-fishing trip. I left San Diego at 8:00 am heading to a small campground on the Owens river just outside of Bishop California. Stopped a few times on the road and ate lunch and generally took my time. I arrived to...

Great day of fishing at putah creek! Didn't seem to matter what section of the creek we fished but there were plenty of active ones around. Went fishing on PC with a buddy a few days ago.  When we got to the run, I saw the scene in the photo below... Folks - 3-4 fish were observed spawning over redds on this middle reaches of the creek today.  Very early for this, but might be due to the strangely low hydrograph for this time of year.  Regardless, please be aware of areas of "clean" gravel and fish laying out in the open -- please give the...

I stopped by the california Fly shop earlier this week and it looked like a place that wasn't doing well.  The rod racks were almost empty and they seemed to be holding very little stock in everything from reels to nets to fly boxes.   Hopefully they are just in a restocking cycle.  Can't afford to lose an...
