A mystery on the bank... Solved
Permalink

Went fishing on PC with a buddy a few days ago.  When we got to the run, I saw the scene in the photo below... Float tube,  spin fishing rod with Kastmaster (barbed), waders and a pair of sunglasses all neatly stacked on the bank.  I assumed that the guy was standing in the run but there was no answer to our hails.  We fished the run for three hours (don't leave fish to find fish right?!).  Still no sign of the owner.  Just before we left, I looked around in the pockets of the belly boat and found his fishing license.

On the way home from the creek, I contacted the Yolo Sheriff's office. I sent the deputy the photos, the name/address of the guy and the GPS coordinates in case something happened to the guy.

She later informed me that she had made contact with the guy and that his story is that he had shot a deer in the area and had forgotten where he left his boat/items and had to return before dark... Weird.  I wouldn't have travelled across the creek with pole and rifle in hand but whatever.  hmm  Makes me wonder if he was on the up and up...  I also found lures as big as my hand in those compartments...  Something that should be used in the salt... for sharks.

Holy crap!!! You guys are killing me.

I really don't see what's so weird about the story.

The guy was contacted by the Sheriff's department and he told the officer that he was hunting and shot a deer, and couldn't get back to his things before dark. Why is that so suspicious?

Deer are often taken at first light and last light. It's not strange to me that he ran out of daylight and planned to come back. He left an ID in his boat. That sounds responsible to me not suspicious.

He may not know that his barbs are not in compliance but to be fair he wasn't seen fishing. Criminals hide their actions from the law not tell them all about it.

Drdan you did a good thing, the right thing. But if this guy was under suspicion by the law you wouldn't have been given any information about what he was doing out there.

Did everything look brand new out of the box? If so could have been props to make it look like he was fishing, like he was off hiding something, or casing an area for something in the future, or maybe he's got some weed up there.

Fishing license in a pocket is something that could have been overlooked. I have never seen anybody carrying that much fishing gear and hunting at the same time. Seen people hunting, seen people fishing, but never hunting-fishing. Anything is possible I suppose.

Well I guess this is the time to take my foot out of my mouth and say it.

You guys were right! It does seem pretty weird.

I saw the stuff on Saturday and Bono saw it still sitting there on Sunday. Something seems a little fishier than the guide hole about this whole mystery.
