Hit the creek Monday. Fish from 8:30am-12:30pm up and down Access #5 area. Nobody there but me, a couple of Blue Herons and some fish! Found a nice stretch of quite water and proceeded to get 4 to hook, none to hand. Used a pheasant tail nymph,
a #20 black midge and 2 different realistic patterns. About...
Made it to the island around noon today and started nymphing. Nothing to speak of for about an hour worth of labor. Noticed some risers on the other side of the bank and then saw what they were feeding on. Light cream colored mayflys? Anyways, since I wasn't having any success nymph...
Yesterday I hooked a super pig. The fish dragged me down the creek for about 50 yards for what seemed like 20 minutes before I finally yanked so much I finally lost it. I nearly had it to net 3 or 4 times, but i couldn't land it. I would estimate the fish to be 22 inche...
It was my unerstanding they were not going to raise the flow of Putah until Thursday, yet I see it is back up to 131. Is this correct? I was hoping to fish before it came up again.
Anyone in the know?
I was at the 128 Bridge Sunday a.m., had the stretch above and below the bridge to myself for a few hours. I then traveled downstream to the last pool before the crick widens. After a bit, I heard a singular "snap" in the bushes behind me; I was instantly "a lert" (living in mountains m...
I fished for a few hours (10am t0 1pm) and did OK. I was in that stretch of moving water below the resort. Landed one 12" rainbow and had two on that were in the 20" range. Alas, they broke off. The hot fly was a very small zebra-like nymph (sorry, I'm not good at remembering specific names - this was a fly that...
Hi All:
First post since the new forum. Much better this way. Was getting out of control with all the absurdly angry and pointless posts on the previous forum.
Anyway, fished from 3:00 til dusk yesterday (sunday) and was blown away at how low the water was. Nonetheless, found...
First of all, thanks to Greg for giving us this site. Yesterday was my first time on Putah Creek and I had a difficult time. Early, I fished below # 3 and didn't see any sign of life, seriously. Moved above # 3 and there were several fish jumping all around a deeper po...
First of all I would like to thanks everyone involved with the mud snail / wading boot survey that took place yesterday Sat at access #5 at the creek. From what I could tell it seemed to be a huge success.Hopefully now it can be determined a little clearer what chemicals really do work best at eliminating...
I know it's not fishing but thought I'd pass this link on just the same.
In a nutshell guy puts up an add for "new" set of gears for sell. Buyer sends check. Seller cashes check then says he want more money. The bulliten board members take a stand and seller decides he better send gears. Seller send old...
I am in hopes to do a lot more fishing this fall/winter and I would like to know where and what stays open for trout during this time of year. I know I will spend many days @ Putah, but would like to meander off a bit as well. I have never fished steelies, but I may like to...

I have not been out in a couple weeks, I had a proceedure on my spine which has kept me homebound. But I would like to hear some other reports of success or defeat on the board. Hope to get out there next week or so, if me back allows it.

Fished the feather last wednesday for steelhead. We had four guys in two boats, two of us were experienced and the other two newbies. I landed five and lost three others. The biggest was 27 inches. But the best fight came from an 18 incher I got in frog water. The other guy in my boat (newbie) hooked one tha...
Having never fly fished Putah during the late Fall and Winter months, can someone post a generalized outline on the conditions. I know that flows go way down, making wading better, however, what other changes can I expect? How do the fish react to the changing seasons?...Do winter stor...
I fished Putah Creek only once before. I spent most of the time driving around and looking at the river and trying to find possible fishing spots. I ended up fishing a riffle around at access #3 and I caught a 8 incher and a 10 incher.
I see mostly long slow pools separated by fast riffle sections. Wher...
Fishing on the right side of bridge... experimenting dry fly..caught three.. missed A WHOLE bunch!!!! still very new to fly fishing..forgot the names of the flies.... but towards evening..fish was jumping all over..couldnt get them to take it at all.. most action from 1-4pm.....us...
Quick question for the Putah panel:
What is the best way to drift a Fox Poopah. It is clear that this is an important fly for Putah, but I have never had so much as a tug using one. Under a weight? Drifted deep? Up in the film? Should I attach a dropper?
Thanks
Hey folks...Don't forget to bring a plastic garbage bag with ya when you go to Putah Creek. If you get skunked fishing at least you'll come out with some trash I have cashed in over $50 worth of glass, plastic and aluminum this Summer. Tight lines. TMS
Yesterday, I fished Putah from about 1:30 to 4:30 pm.
There was some surface and sub surface activity in the lanes 40 to 50' past the shore on the upstream section above the bridge.
I tried my go to fly in N California and SW Oregon, a Yellow Jacket fly, size 6 that hangs down about 12 to 18" of water.
A...
Anyone been up to the Trinity during the winter months for trout? I hear they are around eating the Salmon and Steelehead eggs. Just wondering?
I'm really looking for a few good spots this winter

Hey All,
Just got back from a few hours on the river with my 10yr old daughter. Had just an awesome day. Weather was beautiful, fish were really hitting, and I think my daughter is going to be a natural... I brought her bait gear with us and we tossed it a bit, then I began to...
I've been away for a week with my 10yr old son Nicholas deer hunting and fishing in No Calif(by the way he out fished me on the upper Sac,he landed a fat 19" rainbow and caught more fish ,I can see the writing on the wall,it will soon be "Nicks Flyfishing" I think he's planning some sort of hostile take over!...
Hi all,
I'm going out this afternoon, and have yet to decide where? I have been going to turnout #5 I guess you call it, and want to try a new one this afternoon, but I am not familiar with the others. With good wading opportunities. Any info would be great.
Mayb...
I spent about 6 hours yesterday above the bridge and below the dam.
It was one of those Putah Days with fish jumping out of the water while chasing something and with big fish below chasing something.
The something wasn't what I offered from standard little Putah Creek flies to terrestials to pupa...
Made it to the water around 2:30 this afternoon. Initially tried the big hole below the staircase. There were 2 cars parked upstream from the lower access and I was hoping to have the hole to myself.
I crossed in the fast water below the big hole and found another flyfisherman already there. I'm und...
Had a great evening on the creek. 7 fish ranging from 11"- to a big fat 17" brown.
Bead head nymphs and a 50/50 yogurt. I have just started back fly fishing after about a 10 year haitus. I am very excited about the prospects at one of my dads favorite plac...
