Let me tell you what someone told me about putah creek, "keep fishing it, it can be difficult, but you will figure it out." I would fish smaller flies, Pheasant tails or midge patterns. Start at top and work your way down, if you fish the creek enough you will figure out were the fish are.

Cole said it best.biggrin   There really isn't any nice hot spots, well maybe a couple but just fish the creek and you'll find in some time that you will have your spots that you like and spots that you dont.  Be patient but fish hard.  #2 is a little tougher to fish with higher flows, #5 let's you fish a decent section of river on either side of the island (better on the far side). At the bridge is where alot of people fish there's some good drifts around there. As bkerbs said pt's and small midge patterns should work if your getting quality drifts.
Anytime is a great time to catch fish on Putah.  Lately my best time has been early evening for action but that usually changes every few days it seems.  You can catch fish all day long those fish like to eat.

As far as spots go, there are fish everywhere.  If you can get deep enough with the right fly, you'll get hits.  The takes can be subtle, though.  Most people use indicators to detect strikes and ensure you get a good drift.  You want the indicator to drift like a leaf or a stick (it shouldn't drag in the current).  I highly recommend an indicator of some sort.  I haven't had much luck with caddis lately.  I've caught fish but not many.  I've landed more fish on mayflies and midges in the recent past.  For mayflies, I use #16-20.  For midges, I use #20-24.  Be patient.  Putah can be tough, but once you get it, it can be awesome.

Sounds like a good plan.  Let us know how it goes.
