I FINALLY WENT FISHIN'!

It has been some time since I fished due to some medical issues.  I went fishing on the Truckee two weeks ago and only managed to hook two, however I got one up close and he went 17 inches at least, it was exciting to have one on again.  Ayway this post is not about the Truckee River.

I went out to "The Creek" with a couple of friends on Monday, we got up to the bridge about 8:30am, and it looked like I was not the only guy that decided to bring some friends fishing, man alive, there must have been about five or six guy's out fishing by the bridge, another four on their way down and one in the lot getting ready.  The only one flyfishing was the poor guy getting ready in the lot, whoever you are, I hope you found a spot somewhere down there.  Needless to say we moved down river a bit to one of my favorite spots.  I was on the river for 4 hours or so and I got two to the net, one was 9" and the other was 14"-15", I think I lost at least 5 fish, one of my friends caught one and lost 2, one guy never got one to the net, but missed some and my friends kid caught 7 on powerbait.  The fly that seemed to be working for us was a tan fox poopah. All in all it was really a great day, I'm paying for it physically, but it was good to be back out.  I just can't wait till they draw the water down this year.

Until next time

Keith

The local paper is doing a week long story on the damn, lake, and Putah creek. So you might see a few more folk on the creek for a while....

Keith,

It's good to hear from you again.  That's awesome that you made it out and found some willing fish.  I'm heading up to Utah this Friday for a week.  We should hook up when I get back.

Doesn't Willie Nelson have a song called the caddis blues? Nah man I just miss em. Caddis and Stones are my favorite to tie and fish. Big stuff with legs, antennae and eyeballs. Mays are third or even fourth behind midges. The only reason for that is Putah. Midges aren't hard to tie and they catch pigs. I respect small bugs now way more. Matter of fact I worked up some sweeties last night. Stones are the coolest bugs though, just like little dinosaurs.
