Survived my annual trip to fish the mammoth area. Fished alot of water from crowley to bridgeport. Fishing was really good. No huge fish to hand but the shear numbers of quality trout made for a great trip. Had a partner in crime this time, Whippersnapper. I think he even might have caught a trout or two....
I just want to take a moment and thank everyone who came out to the fundraiser. I realize Healdsburg is not the closest place for some of you. I had a good time chatting with you all, meeting some new friends, razzing the old ones. It was a blast and I cannot wait to make it bigger and better for next year....
Hello Putah Creek Fly Fishermen, Once upon a time, I did alot of bait casting, and then, . . . . . . . . . . . . . I woke up from my dream and realized that fly fishing was the only way. I just got started on fly fishing. I took a beginners casting course, so I got down most of the basic casts. I live in Davis, and P...
I spent a few days fishing several rivers, creeks, and lakes along the Eastern sierras. The fishing was pretty good overall. Most fish were taken on small Mayfly nymphs and emergers as well as hoppers and stimulators.
So i'm digging my late evening excursions this June/July. Get to the creek at 6:30 or 7:00, get in the water by 7:15, landing a few or two nymphing (in yesterday's case a fat fat fat 16 incher that pulled like a beast), float on down to some glassy water and fish dries till dark, catching lots of little fish...
We are within 2 weeks of celebrating our annual fund raising event in Healdsburg. We have worked particulary hard this year to provide a wide variety of items and great deals for every taste and interest. The following is a list of many of the items that will be available at our fundraiser in Healdsburg...
We had another great Montana Run this year. The rivers were running a bit high, some more so than others. Most were just coming into shape after Montana's late, wet winter/ spring ( sound familiar?). We stayed 4 days in Rock Creek. The view of the valley off the back deck is picturede below. Not to...
In the last few days, from 7:30 PM til dark, there has been some electric dry fly fishing. I've been a few times and was reminded of nights on the upper sac or mccloud rivers in Nor Cal south of Shasta. Only issue has been size of the fish. These are mostly 9-12 inchers, but there is nothing more exciting...
BLUEGILLS BLUEGILLS BLUEGILLS!!! The lake has dropped bout 5 feet from 3 weeks ago, but the water is lookin really good. Very bassy water. nymphs, and the usual bass flies worked well. Very nice day in all. Side note: if anybody wants to get their kids hooked on flyfishing, tomorrow is the day to do it....
I enjoy fishing the creek this time of year. Higher flows ,warm weather, no people. The creek forces me to fish hard. Adjusting weight, leader and changing flies at every hole. I put in a few more hours again today. I fished each spot until it gave up its secret. Plenty of little fish (6"-8&qu...
Just a couple more weeks and me and a buddy are heading North to fish the McCloud and Upper Sac for 4 days. I also want to try some of the smaller creeks around Mt Shasta for some fun small fish action, think McCloud Red bands. Conditions should be prime by then.
As a few of you know I am guiding now, and its a blast, but things are on the slow side so I had to get a pt job. And I have to say I love it. I work in fishing department as the Fly Fishing Man at a new outfitter up in placerville called Mosquito Creek Outfitters. Its a great place, 3rd gen family owned, has al...
Arrived at the river around 10 am. Super low flow, but good clarity. Saw a bunch of fish working one seam and fished it most of the day. No takes on any nymphs. Threw just about the whole box at 'em, mainly size 18-20 midges etc. Finally around 2 pm, a good PMD hatch came off and fish were rising all over. Thre...
I was wondering around the creek today at access 5, and noticed that some of the C&R signs are missing. I found one ripped down right below the lot at 5, where some people had to of been camping recently down there. There was a dug out fire pit and a clothes line hung from 2 trees.. And it looked like they...
Since the summer sierra season is fast approaching I'm looking for a good wet wading boot that is lightweight and good for hiking as well. I think I might look at trying some korkers ultra lights with a stuuded rubber soles. Does anyone have experience with the interchangable sole system they use ? Th...
To All, We are trying to put together a box of flies for the PCT fundraiser on July 10th. The idea is to tie 3 of your favourite Yuba fly and send them in to me. I will put them in a box and get them to Steve for the auction. The best looking flies in the collection will win a bottle of wine (judged by me). I know it i...
Man - no posts for a long time. Guess all of you were bait slingers after all and the new regs have crimped your style! In any event, has anyone been out lately? Flows are way up (which I like) and the temps are hot. Last night (got there about 6:15), there was a very nice baetis hatch (I think they were baetis...
After working far too much the last few weeks and having a couple of back to back 6 day work weeks, I got to enjoy my final Yuba Raffle weekend at the UC Property this weekend. JL came up on Saturday and I had another friend join me on Sunday. We knew the flows would be a little high, but did not have any idea...
Next week is my annual camping trip with my brother and his kids, we usually head to Sourgrass on the NF or Sand Bar Flat on the Middlefork Stan. Any one been up there recently, like in the last week or so? I'm trying to determine if flows will be OK or if we should consider a backup location.
Finally dumping the Cabelas Dry Plus waders and hugely ungrading to Simms. I am looking at the G4s and G3s and was hoping I can get some reviews from those that have used or currently use these waders. Not quit sure which ones yet, hopefully this will help me decide. So any advise, reviews or just you...
I will attribute the following news to the efforts of Putah Creek Trout and all of you anglers who have been calling CALTip to report regulations violations on Putah Creek. I know I have spoken with several of you who have stayed on course with this. Our local Game Warden who patrols Putah Creek, Lance...
I hadn't seen too many reports lately, so I thought I'd warm up the info hotline with a report on the Yuba. After 5 weeks of no fishing, Alastair and I headed up to the Lower Yuba on Sunday to remember how to do it. We made up for lost time and put in a solid 12 hours of fishing during the day. It's been a long...
