I was just on the Kiene's board and saw that Lance Gray is doing an instructional day the 25th. Sounds like he's going over techniques, bugs and other environmental concerns. Anyone heard about this or know what's going on? 135$ a head so he must be doing some fishing as well.
I fished the PC yesterday after ~ 3 month hiatus. The PC is in fine shape. The flows are great. There was a little green color. There were mayflies hatching in the middle of the day. I think they were March browns.
The dogwoods are beautiful. The poison oak is glorious.
I caught a few fish on a black bea...
I went through the sticky thread on etiquette and didn't see this mentioned. Last week at the Yuba River expedition there was a couple (man and wife) who jumped on a spot in the middle of the river that they had obviously fished before and hogged it for about 4 hours, switching off so as to monopolize the...
I got a call from a friend today . Probably the most humble person i know that FF fishes He is allways polite and friendly , anyways whoever ran him and his friend off the river you came off like kinda like a jerk You dont own the river he was just showing someone how to fly fish the guy had just boug...
My woman asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday in March. The obvious answer was to fly fish. In order to make the experience inclusive, I came up with the idea of a cabin located on a trout stream. Can anyone suggest a place with simple cabins on a stream/river that holds trout? Send me a PM if you don't...
I found a box on the yuba today and would be happy to return it to the owner. PM me and give a accurate discription and we can meet. No name or phone number on it. I wrote my info on my boxes as soon as I got home. We should all do this.
I have plans to do some fishing on the Lower Yuba in the next month and would love to catch fish on Skwala dry flies. I did some research on the net and came up with this pattern. Never having seen an actual Skwala stonefly, I would like some feedback as to whether this pattern might work. tks.

I fished a few deep runs over the coarse of 2 days and found the fishing to be slow. The fish I caught were all with a 2 fly set up, the bottom fly a #18/20 micro may/brassie/midge. Part of it may be my need for a new strategy. Questions for the experienced PC anglers out there: Do you guys use split shot above y...
I was up with Steve doing one of our final spawning fish census counts during late February. There was no longer any spawning activity, but a couple of fish still hanging out. As I was in the water counting redd's, something caught my eye in the water. I bent over and picked up this cool trout lure, pic...
So what's the difference between a thingamabobber and a sindicator. Looks the same to me?? Folks were talking recently about liking the sindicator better.
Hi Everyone I live in the North Bay and have fly fished for years and have yet to fish Putah Creek. I drove right past the turn off to Putah on 505 last weekend on the way to fish the Lower Sac. I had a great day up there, but I really want to learn it the creek especially with gas prices going up. Any ideas for fly...
I think thats the name of the stuff up at Putah. It's starting to bloom (granted the poison oak is starting to leaf out as well) which means the other spawn is kicking in. Berryessa Bass This storm front coming through Tuesday night through Wednesday will give them lock jaw for a few days. No weather t...
As a follow up to some posts (myself included) about ARFF and the whole deal about posting about fishing to sponsors, , in the words of the late Paul Harve, "and now, for the rest of the story." I wanted to add that the owner emailed me back and invited me in for coffee to discuss. I completely f...
Anyone go? I went Sunday, it was my first time and to be honest I was a little disappointed. It was pretty small and about half the vendor booths were for private waters, non profits, and tour organizers. You can find all that stuff on the internet. I was expecting to see booths from the major brand m...
The PCT org could really use a hand updating our website. If you have experience with CSS, HTML, working with grid systems, and feel the need to volunteer some of your time to a worthwhile organization then please PM me. Thx.
The fly fishing film tour is coming to Sacramento again this year. Same venue as last year but an entirely new set of videos. Tickets at the door are $15. Some of the local Sacramento shops have discounted tickets available for $12. There will be a pre event gathering at Fly Fishing Specialties before t...
Today marked the end of the second wintertime spawning survey that PCT has assisted HWTP with. No fish were seen at the survey sites today and have been dwindling in numbers recently. DFG is in the process of analyzing last year's data, but it appears that the numbers of fish is about the same this year,...
Time for another fish biology challenge. 1. When and where in the world was the rainbow trout discovered and first named? What was the name? 2. Which US trout subspecies was fished to extinction within 20 years of its discovery? Where was it found? 3. True or False. The Sacramento perch is not found...
Here's one for the good guys: Three Stockton men face prison and jail terms, heavy fines, a forfeited vehicle and destroyed firearms for conspiring to kill and sell deer for profit. In June 2011, after a three week investigation, wardens with the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) arreste...
Here are some photos of a fish caught today. It appears the fish was attacked by a cormorant or merganser. The fish actually had tons of energy even though it had a huge gash about one inch deep.
Regional nonprofit Tuleyome is holding a townhall discussion about the formation of a National Conservation Area that includes the IDR of PC. This NCA inclusion would provide some protection and enhancement possibilities for PC. Congressman Mike Thompson will be there as well. If you can attend...

So I have been playing around with some new knots. I have always used improved clinches on most setups. I was googling "strongest fishing knots" the other day and saw the "San Diego knot". Reason for the question is I broke off a big pissed off winter steelhead earlier this we...
