Hey Everyone, Its not very often I post on here anymore, however, I could use your help to receive a grant for my personal fly fishing guide service, Nor Cal Fly Guides. A few weeks ago, I came across a grant that Chase Bank is giving out to small businesses across the US. There are a few steps needed to poss...
TarponvilleTarpon, undoubtedly the baddest fish you mess with on the fly. The shear violence and strength of these fish is hair raising. For those of you who have had the opportunity to connect to one of these fish you know what I am talking about. For those of you still thinking it over, get your...
Had a few hours free Sunday and took a friend to Putah. I won't say the locations as I think that's the fun part of learning the creek but will report poor to okay fishing depending on how you look at it. In 3 hours we hooked in 6 fish. Only one being a solid 16" fought and spit the hook either taking a soft...
For those of you waiting for spawning season to end at Putah... I went to the Lower Yuba on Sat and caught a few 14 inchers, plus hooked a few other good sized ones. My buddy caught one in the 24 inch range, and hooked another that was probably 18+. The rain and recent high flows added some tint, which I he...
Thanks Jordan Romney for a great talk tonight at the Fly Fishers of Davis meeting. I definitely learned some great tips that I will try out in the near future!

it has been about 5 or 6 weeks since I last had a chance to get out to Putah Creek but finally was able to do so 2 days ago (Wednesday). The hills have acquiried their Summer appearance since I was last there. It was a beautiful day though, clear skies, temps in the high 70's and very little wind. I decided to g...
I just moved to Pleasant Hill from Seattle this past summer. I am spoiled having incredible river access back home. finally scored a hall pass and decided to scout the Putah Creek area. I ran into a couple nice fly anglers today. I just wanted to know on a general basis how safe the area is? I was parked in a...

Anyone have a strong opinion on which is the way to go on a 9' 5wt? I'm debating between the Leland Classic Trout reel (2.9" diameter with click and pawl) vs the Ross CLA (3.25" diameter with disc drag). How important is that extra .35"? As far as drag...I've been told that the click an...
Hi everyone: Just joined the forum, was planning on bringing my two daughters to the trout celebration this weekend... they're still pretty young so they'll have their kid spin rods, but any recommendation what I might rig them up with (knowing there's no bait, barbs)? Thanks, hope to see you out on...
My dad gave me a used Caddis float tube. After patching a leak in the bladder and recreating the absent spreader bar and dripping apron , I decided to take it for a spin. I had so much fun floating a couple slow deep holes on the creek. There was a short window ~noon that the fish were obviously more active. I...
A reminder that the Wild Trout Celebration is coming up this Sunday at Canyon Creek Resort on April 19, 10-6 PM. This is a family oriented fun and educational celebration of the volunteerism of PCT along with many others groups and clubs who assisted DFW's Heritage and Wild Trout Program team over the...
Last year I went on a buying/testing binge from Amazon, Sierra Trading Post and Cabelas since they had a lot of products on sale. I didn't need any of this stuff, but it sure was fun experimenting. Hopefully, this will help some of you guys if you need to buy new equipment this year.Rods:Redington CPX...
Bought these size 12 boots when I have size 12 feet. What was I thinking? Used them a few times and bought myself the right size boots. My brain fart is your gain. Replaced laces with tougher ones. Paid 70$ for boots. Joe in Napa PS these arent anywhere else on the inernets. -- Edited by browndude3649 on We...
I spent 7 hrs nymphing and didn't get a single strike! I've talked with a couple of fellows on the river and they had similar results. Are the fish on a special diet? Have they left their usual holds and gone walkabout? Or is this typical for this time of year?
I took my new TFO BVK 8wt out to sling some nasty streamers. After figuring out the casting, I was able to get some good drifts. I was using a circus peanut fly... The fly drifted right under a fallen tree and WHAM!!!! I didn't think brownies were in Putah anymore. This one must have been hiding for a...
Finally back to fishing, was on the creek yesterday and found a nice watch on a trail between access #3 and #4. Might not be fisherman's watch, kind of fou fou . On second thought might be a fly fishermans watch. Also found a jar of green power bait. Call the local DFG office to retreive it.
This year I decided to try a less expensive and possibly just as good alternative to the usual fly line backings like Dacron and gel-spun lines. Dyneema seems like the perfect alternative. It doesn't stretch, is really tough and thin for the rated breaking strength. For the rated strength Dynee...
I have noticed a lot of graffiti and stickers latley at the creek spacfically at the bridge / Stickers being placed over graffitti making a real mess of the report box . One reads {Born Dead } I googled born dead they are a Punk Band out of Oakland on Facebook I PMed them asking them to refraning from defac...
Comes as shown. Needs some tlc and missing the anchor, rope, and right side storage bag. Pontoons and frame in good shape. Floated the Truckee in it last summer. $440 obo
Anyone using these new fly lines? At $50 I'm wondering how they perform. My experience has shown that anything under $70 doesn't do what I want it to do well enough ie shoot, mend, roll cast etc.
