No New Posts Heads up (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 19 2253

Be careful, the critters are out.  This one was still small enough he only had a micro rattle and I couldn't even hear him before I almost sat on him.  I got close enough for him to see my caddis pupae and tell me I didn't stand a chance. -- Edited by Cole Davis on Monday 11th of June 2012 04:29:40 PM

I have been to the Merced the last two weekends, the river is betwenn 100-230, awfully low, but the fishing was excellent. Big stonefly nymphs (#12) did the trick and also caught a few on Beetles. Had a kid (9 yrs old, first time fishing) with me throwing a Kastmaster on a spinning rod and he got 4,. the sma...

I'm headed up to Redding in a couple of weeks for a guided trip on the Lower Sac.  I'm planning on staying over and getting in some fishing the next day somewhere close by.  Any recommendations? I was thinking about staying overnight in Dunsmuir area and fishing the Upper Sac.  Any tips on motels and you...

No New Posts Yuba river history? (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 6 1916

Hi All, What's the history behind the giant concrete structures at the lower Yuba? And the submerged dam downstream? Are these remnants of stuff damaged by the 1996 flood? Not really fly fishing related but I've been going there a lot and started wondering about it.

No New Posts Quick-Seine nets (Preview) Equipment and Product Reviews 0 2903

I've been using this for many years now and am about to replace it because the old one is starting to disintegrate.  You don't always need to "get all technical" to catch trout, but when I'm not getting any interest on stand by attractor patterns I slip this over the net and start dipping to se...

No New Posts Ross Reel customer service (Preview) Equipment and Product Reviews 1 1532

I bought a couple Ross reels from Brian Clemmens here.  Once they came in the mail I did with them what I do with most reels, I took them apart to clean them, and see how they work.  In doing so I broke the screw that holds the drag knob in place on one of the reels.  I called Ross Reels to try and get replacement...

No New Posts Tough day (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 4 677

Had fun trying out my new Cabella's 10' 4wt CZN rod. I think it performs great. Had a monster on briefly. Easily the largest fish i have seen on the Putah (not in a grip & grin photo that is). He flew out of the water when I set the hook and tail walked across the water until he broke my fly off. no...

No New Posts Gold country surprise ... (Preview) Rants and Raves 0 1043

On a recent 4th grade field trip to the gold country with my son, we had occaision to rescue a couple little rainbows. Just had to put them back in the main channel. The were alive but suffering from exposure. 3 total, 1 doubtful, 2 good chances of survival. I ended up wandering down stream, while the kids...

Heading up to Sunriver for a few days with some boys for a multi day golf trip.  We're staying at the resort and I see the Deschutes goes right through a couple of the courses on the resort property.  Needless to say, I'm dragging some fly gear along too for the evening hatch.  I called a fly shop in SUnrive...

Is anyone out there using the Korkers boots that have the snap in style soles on them?  They have four different options with felt, studded and that slippery s#*t everyone is trying to pass off as sticky rubber.  Seems like a good concept just dunno how well they hold up.

No New Posts Pit 3 (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 4 884

Just got back from a great morning on the Pit at Rock Creek. Had 6 fish in the net with a 17 incher the best of the bunch. Took a couple of swims and filled my waders which felt pretty good in the heat. Tough river to fish. I think I lost about 20 flies and I never had so many fish break me off. The big ones run str...

No New Posts Hetch Hetchy reservoir...tear the dam down or not? (Preview) Rants and Raves 6 1566

On Friday Rep. Dan Lungren wrote to the Secretary of the Interior claiming that San Francisco and the rest of the Bay Area cities that use Hetch Hetchy water were in violation of the Raker Act and should be prohibited from further use of Hetch Hetchy as a storage facility. His long term goal is the remova...

No New Posts Sketchy fisherman?  ( 1 2 ) (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 36 3978

I was fishing on PC yesterday and noticed another fisherman watching me from the opposite bank. I was not in an easy to access spot, and was surprised by the guy. He proceeded to stare at me for about 5 minutes, never saying a word. I felt alarmed. I had crossed the stream and maybe he was pissed I was in &quo...

No New Posts Landing trout on small flies (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 5 1585

I'm relatively new to Putah creek. I fished it yesterday and lost two sizeable trout (one looked like it was pushing 20") on number 18 to 20 flies.  The first problem I had was no net. But I'm wondering if there's a secret to landing fish on small flies. I was playing the big fish for longer than I norm...

No New Posts Cutting down limbs, removing obstacles (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 6 850

I have been noticing more and more tree limbs missing with saw marks lately on the creek.  Legally I am sure this is a no no but I am curious to your opinions in regards to this.  I don't think I would ever do it, I like the challenge when fishing Putah.  I understand the frustration it causes.  I guess I have...

No New Posts Flows too high? (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 8 1427

Just checking to see what people think about the current flows on Putah (400cfs).  Is this too high to fish the creek effectively?  or are there some access points that fish better than others?  thinking about going this weekend but don't want drive all the way just to get beat up by a swift creek.  Than...

Hit the creek for a bit today.  Figured it would be a little busy for the holiday weekend.  All I can say is the RV park was rockin like the old days and I had some good laughs.  It hasn't been as nuts as it was before, but this brought back some times.  Then on the way out I had a fish rocket off the bottom and ham...
