Leland Fly Fishing Ranch & Fly Shop Winter Hours / Future Plans

I would assume this is the appropriate category for such a post so here it goes. The following italicized text is copied and pasted from a handout we have at our front gate for the days we are currently closed... more personal information is below that.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for visiting the Leland Ranch. Sorry we're not open today. We're currently working on our new partnership with Wing & Barrel, Sonoma's own thousand acre hunting facility. That's right, another metal Leland fly fishing barn is destined for Wing & Barrel's property.

Fear not though, as the Leland Ranch is still open every Friday and Saturday for casting lessons and general fly fishing needs. Our helpful staff will be waiting to assist you with the most efficient fly casting technique around, and we've got a barn-full of the best fly fishing tackle. Please come on back for another visit. You won't be disappointed.

Remember, we're also available online (Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM) at LelandFly.com, where you can click to chat or give us a troll-free call with any fly fishing questions at 866-672-1959.

Finally, we're still working hard on our angling permit from Sonoma County. Soon enough, you'll be able to play with our five pound trout in our pond. Get ready!

Thank you,

The Leland Staff

As one of the few fly shops near Putah (55 minutes) to be exact I thought we may have some presence here to participate in the forum and answer any questions some may have about anything fly fishing. Thanks for the opportunity by the way!

Leland has been going through some changes over the past 3 years as many of you may have noticed. From two locations into one and a reduction in many brands we once carried many of you have asked, what's going over there?

The above message summarizes this a bit but let me tell you more if you're interested. Leland is a brand, it's a teaching method and it's a location in Sonoma. Here is where we responsibly educate newcomers and those at any level wanting to learn more about fly fishing. We have a unique 3 principle based approach to casting that focuses on control and efficiency. We've removed ourselves from the "industry" hype and have taken a step back to the days when it was simply about an enjoyable day on the water. We outfit with balanced rod, reel and line solutions. Gear designed together and with Leland Rod / Reel Co we have done it. Among those brands we carry Scott Fly Rods, Loop Fly Rods & Reels, Hatch Reels, Umpqua Leader / Tippet / Flies, Airflo and Leland Fly Lines, Patagonia outerwear along with the necessary gear to get you on the water. Beyond that we have weeded out the confusion, at least confusion to us. Prices on gear from low to premium. Please note we don't carry any fly tying material but do teach $60 private tying classes. Casting lessons are $100 per person.

We're really excited about some of our new product such as the Leland "Pliny" Fly Line so please visit for an intro to our gear. Bring the family, lunch maybe a beer or wine on a Friday or Saturday and hang out. We can't fish but we can enjoy 13 acres of Sonoma and cast a fly rod with the kids or a buddy.

Regarding Putah Creek. We know it well and have met some of you on the water out there. We also carry a good selection of putah creek flies and can show you the techniques we like to use out there. As many of you know it's a great river to learn on and if you live close within an hour you deserve to learn it throughout all seasons. Better yet, learn it at higher flows and stay away during late fall and early winter...

Pending permits and the shuffle of county paperwork our Sonoma Ranch will soon be a place you can come and fish on an hourly basis. Great for introducing people to the sport or just for an afternoon get-away with a friend or family member. We also plan to use the property for small events such as team buildings and parties. We may even offer an annual club membership which will allow you to fish more and get discounts on our gear. This won't be an 8 hour hardcore fishing location in the sierra's but a place to hone skills, try our equipment and maybe catch a 5lb trout or two all within an environment fun for the whole family. Teach someone to fly fishing we say!

Thanks for reading and if you have any questions feel free to ask. We're open Friday & Saturday 10am to 6pm in Sonoma and for web support on anything fly fishing Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. (866) 672-1959 or info@flyfishingoutfitters.com

Tight Lines!

~Casey & the Leland Team
