No New Posts Pit question (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 0 1136

Does the Pit #3 tend to get blown out with the type of rain we have been getting the last week or so?  Basically, what does it take to muddy Lake Britton?

No New Posts Yuba today (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 6 1306

Well another great day on the Yuba…   Bright silver fish and full of fight.  Quit arguing about the little creek and hike for some real fish.  The fish were keying on small pmds size 18 and midges size 20.  Don't use an egg they don't work.

No dataclysm here, Only in the raw. Either your catching or not. No magic rectangle held in your hand can tell you the code. Only an observant eye can have a chance to crack it. It is nature, adjusting to its moment. Only ego must observe and adjust to become ever present in its flow. Nature has no ego.   Ope...

I for one am willing to spend a night or two a month at access #3 protecting the spawners from pouchers visiting the creek snaging and taking fish after most people have left the creek say from 5;30 or 6;00 pm till 8;00 or 9;00 . if we had say 15 to 30 volenteers we could start a roster and set times and dates , j...

No New Posts Fish Out (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 29 2228

Any takers on an anit-Putah fish out?  A what? Yeah, Putah gets hammered in the Winter, which by some fluke chance is right about the time they start to drop the flows and the fish begin to spawn.  People post up, the bickering begins and Keith brings out the edit hammer.  It's never going to change, shor...

No New Posts Scumbag poachers on the creek (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 13 2044

Spotted this truck and the two occupants fishing bait and huge irons for fish that are ready to spawn. Here's their game! Take Go Pro on a telescopic pole and extend it out into the pools that the fish are known to spawn in, spot the big fish and then cast to them. One dick head with bait and the other with his...

No New Posts I found your sunglasses (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 0 563

I can't remember exactly where I picked them up, practically in the creek, maybe somewhere between accesses 2 and 3.  Black Revo brand with an orange neoprene strap.  I drove around with them for a while before I remembered I had them, so I put them on the angler survey box at access 5.  I hope the owner se...

No New Posts Paddle boat between #2 & #3 (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 3 1173

Just FYI, I removed the paddle boat that was stuck in the creek between access number 2 and 3. I've also made note of some other large trash in the creek that I plan to remove, tires, rafts, large trash piles, etc.. I try to go on days with fewer fishermen so as not to disturb the creek too much. I fish the cree...

No New Posts California salmon need water and your help (Preview) Conservation 1 3557

The U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives are currently negotiating a bill that would upset the balance of water distribution needed to protect the already threatened salmon fisheries of California and Oregon. If passed, this legislation would divert water badly needed by salmon and oth...

No New Posts Spawning Season is upon us and PC fishery update (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 0 1020

It's that time of year again: big fish are starting to move around in preparation for their annual ritual. Some sites already have fish and redds. Winter flows appear in place at 135 CFS already because of the drought. Hopefully, they will not drop below 100 CFS over the next four months. Let's all reso...

No New Posts Crowds (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 10 1697

Hey all, Recent transplant to San Francisco and I have been waiting for the flows to drop to try out my nymphing skills on the Putah, which it looks like they finally have.  Looking for pointers on when to hit the Putah to avoid the crowds. Are weekends a no-go? How many anglers on a typical fall Saturday?...

No New Posts A TV channel dedicated to fishing, WFN (world fishing network) (Preview) Rants and Raves 0 3315

I just discovered a TV channel dedicated solely to fishing.  It's the world fishing network (WFN).  Although most of the programs are not focused on flyfishing (as you would expect), at least there are several of them on flyfishing.  Unfortunately, I have Comcast and Comcast doesn't yet include...

No New Posts Yuba egg madness 10-15 with Brian Clemens (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 2 1784

I had a great time with guide Brian Clemens last Wednesday on the Yuba. It is rare that I ever leave the water satisfied; there's typically a feeling of "Just one more...."  There were PLENTY of willing fish last Wednesday going nuts for Brian's particular hand crafted eggs. He not only kne...

No New Posts Halloween Upper Sac (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 0 1036

Into the flow dogwood and maple turn and churn. Even the moon quakes tonight. Rumbling thunder behind me. From my zen march I awake! The engineer's horn. Behind the veil,  Casting caddis adrift in current, to no avail. Between the corduroy, rising to the caddis beat. I cast. Fish rise. Cane bent. Rele...

No New Posts New to the forum, not to fly fishing. (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 2 940

Hi all, I'm new to the forum but an avid fly angler. I am a graduate student here at UC Davis (equine veterinary student) hoping to become more familiar with the gem that is Putah Creek. I've fished it a number of times since I've lived in Davis with mediocre luck. I've been heading out to the Yuba quite oft...

No New Posts My first solo double! (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 2 931

I've never been fortunate to pull this off before. Caught these two twins at Access 3 yesterday on one cast. Made my day! I'm going to try a triple nymph rig now. Or maybe a hopper-copper-dropper.

No New Posts Orvis Sling Pack sale through 10/12/14 (Preview) Equipment and Product Reviews 3 3313

I have the smaller Safe Passage sling pack and really like it.  This is a steal at this price.  Good through 10/12/14 midnight.  The only downside that I have found is that they are not waterproof and so if you don't take care you will get your contents wet.

No New Posts Hunting at the creek? (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 1 715

Hey all, I just moved to the area so I don't know the regulations... But I was curious when I saw a guy walking down the trail near the bridge with a shotgun. I asked him what he was looking for and he sheepishly said "birds".  Seemed a little odd. Got a pic of his license plate just incase any funn...

No New Posts 10-23-14 report (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 1 976

With the lower flows, I can finally get into many of the stretches I love to fish on the Putah.  Lots of 10-14" class fish to hand using tight line techniques and weighted flies. So much fun!  They liked the size 18 tungsten bead head PT the most....  A few pale mayflies cam off ~ 1:30pm.

Well the fall fishing season is in full swing.  From the lakes to the rivers the fishing has been good to great.  Went to Lake Davis and the fishing was pretty good for Clay  (Iamamultitasker) and I.  There weren't a lot of fish, but all the fish averaged about twenty inches.  Have been hitting a few rive...

No New Posts Drop in flows (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 0 641

Putah South Canal is getting its annual cleanout of silt and weeds. Creek flows were dropped to 80 and are now at 100. The fast ramp down was a mistake which won't be repeated. Flows may bounce around for another week before reurning to fall levels

No New Posts Getting Trashed (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 3 1279

I've fished the creek a few times the last month. Surprised at how much trash was around. Found a bunch of large barbed hook rigs on yards of line. I think we all need to make a commitment to take a few handfuls out each visit. Beautiful place that needs a few more stewards.

Hi everyone, just wanted to pass along a warning to those who may turn into the North side of the road parking area at the bridge.
