I've fished the Crooked a couple times in the summer. It's a lot of fun. The water is always a bit stained due to mineral sediment. It's perfect for tight lime techniques because you can get so close to the fish. Lots of fish per mile but not huge size. If I recall, the access areas closer to the dam fished better. Try to cross the river and walk a bit from the camp grounds to get to less,pressured fish.

I fish the Crooked a lot. Below Bowman Dam you are absolutely guaranteed to catch fish. The area around Smith Rock doesn't really produce, in my experience.
