SK1983 - Unless Putah is fishing way better than expected, you may want to hit the Lower Yuba. I hear it's been fishing really well with a good hatch of March Browns.
SK1983 I didn't go last weekend. Got locked down with other things. I was going to do an overnight trip to the Yuba but rain is forecasted Sunday this weekend. I'll be hitting up some bass and go to Putah Sunday.
I fished the Yuba from around 10am to 5 pm yesterday. Overall, great day of fishing, the fish were active and eating. A strong March Brown hatch started around 11 and continued off and on for most of the afternoon. I hooked 9 and landed 5, all on a size 14 beadhead march brown nymph or a size 14 queen prince nymph.
There was some good topwater action, but I didn't have the right fly. A fisherman across the river from me was hooking up every 10 minutes on a mayfly emerger that sat in the film (I don't know the actual fly).
The fish were holding in the riffles and faster water. Unlike the Putah where it is easy to tell exactly where the fish should be, I found that I had the most success when I found a large riffle and fished every inch of it.
Last thing -- it was crowded, so be prepared to share the river or hike far enough upstream to avoid them.
I've attached a photo of one of the trouts; taking photos is hard when you are fishing solo.
