With the lower flows, I can finally get into many of the stretches I love to fish on the Putah. Lots of 10-14" class fish to hand using tight line techniques and weighted flies. So much fun! They liked the size 18 tungsten bead head PT the most.... A few pale mayflies cam off ~ 1:30pm.
there seems to be a lot of bait fishing lately , yes I called dfg no they didnt make contact they always scoot before dfg shows up , next time I wont inform the pochers they are breaking the regs . Earlier this year during the summer, someone asked question about floating the Creek at summertime flows. Since then, there have been two instances of fast water rescue on the Creek. The first occurred in September when three women tried to use paddleboard's to float the Creek and had to be rescued....
Putah South Canal is getting its annual cleanout of silt and weeds. Creek flows were dropped to 80 and are now at 100. The fast ramp down was a mistake which won't be repeated. Flows may bounce around for another week before reurning to fall levels
I've fished the creek a few times the last month. Surprised at how much trash was around. Found a bunch of large barbed hook rigs on yards of line. I think we all need to make a commitment to take a few handfuls out each visit. Beautiful place that needs a few more stewards.

Many 6-8 inch fish which to me is a good sign for the fishery. Red midge nymphs and wd-40s did the trick. I suspect I wasn't getting deep enough to reach the bigger fish, but who knows. Anyone else have days like this?
