No New Posts The creek is full of mud again. (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 4 1394

Well, the creek is full of mud from the last couple of big storms , BUT, the gloryhole is only three feet from the top and they are predicting a possible return of the atmospheric river that hammered us last week. If that happens it is very possible that the hole will spill over for the second time in three y...

No New Posts Any suggestions for wading boots for backpacking? (Preview) Equipment and Product Reviews 6 4102

I do a lot of backpacking in the eastern sierras in the summertime, and would like to find a pair of lightweight boots or booties.  some high country lakes require wading to get your fly past the shelf and its always a drag having to haul in my chest waders and heavy boots when space and weight are limited....

No New Posts Found SPY sunglasses (Preview) Lost and Found 0 2015

I recently found some spy sunglasses while heading onto a trail to the creek. They were below the ”resort” headed back from the bridge in the harder to access area of the creek. They are prescription lenses and please respond with the model for verification.

1200 cfs with pitiful visibility, but the Skwallas are starting to show and I had fun. They really nail a rubber legs and I lost a football toad who snapped a 4x leader. I’m going 3x now As visibility is low. Get some and leave Putah alone for a couple more weeks.

No New Posts The creek is blown out (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 8 1848

Spent yesterday (Jan. 22nd) out at the creek. Hadn't been there since Jan. 3rd and what a difference in water clarity. The color is mocha brown with 9-10 inch visibility and areas where there was a gravel bottom are coated in a layer of boot sucking mud up to 6 inches deep.  Looking at the water data, on Ja...

No New Posts Help Identifying a Fisherman on Putah (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 0 1499

Hi everyone, I was taking some fly fishing pictures on the creek last November 9 and got some nice shots of a guy fishing there.  I am interested in entering one in a photo contest but need a release for the person in the shot.  I was hoping that he is a regular that follows this site or perhaps one of you know...

No New Posts ice (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 9 2712

It's just a tad early in the season here.  Steelhead fishing on the Carp river, Michigan U.P.  Probably part of the reason most are fishing the ice. It's interesting how you take things for granted until you move and no longer have access to it (Putah).  Tight lines all and have a great new year.       -- Ed...

No New Posts Below Goodwin Dam (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 0 2559

Well, I made it down there yesterday. I went with a  pal, and I can honestly say that if you are over 50, that's a GOOD IDEA. The trail down is steep, and once you get to the water, it is deep RIGHT NOW. And I never thought that I would want  (or need ) felt soled boots, but with the scrambling over slick assed g...

No New Posts Watching you tube videos. (Preview) Rants and Raves 3 2723

so I’m watching these guys fishing various rivers on the East slope of the Sierra ( the Owens etc. ), and whenever these dudes hook anything over 12 inches, the guide uses this long assed handled net with an opening big enough to cover an Elk to net the thing, after first wading out and landing it with 20 fe...

No New Posts getting to the water below Goodwin Dam on the Stanislaus (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 2 2809

So.... how does one get to the aforementioned water. I have parked at the parking place below the dam, where you walk down the road to the river, but going upstream from there looked to be a dead end, complete with some deep water. Is there a trail that I just haven't found, or is it bushwhacking. I have dri...

No New Posts Northern California (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 1 2661

Took off last week for my first steelhead trip of the new year.  A lot of mileage for two days.  We fished the Trinity on day one.  The water was low and clear.  After fishing for most of the day with zero strikes we drove to my buddies cabin in Dunsmuir to thaw out.  The next day it was north to the Klamath.  N...

I'll be driving down to Carmel for a few days next week and visiting the area from Monterey Bay to Big Sur.  Been down there before and always though about taking a rod.  Any suggestions?  Take a rod and fish a beach or rocky area for stripers, perch, or kelp bass.  Leave the rod at home and just enjoy the ar...

No New Posts Any Russian River info (Preview) Other Rivers, Streams and Lakes 7 2775

It's that time of the year when I start having anxiety attacks thinking about going after steelhead.  I should have never started, and hate to admit it, but its developed into my favorite fishing vice.  Beware young men.  Talk about dumb.  No rain.  No water.  Too much rain.  Too much water.  Not here...

if anyone is interested im selling my orvis clearwater 12’ 8 weight.  bought it new for 350, am asking 175 but would consider a trade.  Cork handles are aged from use but not damaged, its in great shape otherwise.  orvis calls it a switch but its really more of a short spey rod rather than a long switch rod...

No New Posts swingin (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 11 2396

I know certain guides and anglers have been really successful swinging flies at putah. Not expecting any hand holding since I know many like to keep their putah tricks to themselves but curious if there are any tips or techniques related to swinging/stripping bigger flies at putah.

No New Posts Early Spawning Activity (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 4 1775

FYI, I’ve observed early activity with fish showing signs of spawning. Not just staging signs but actively playing chase and paired up. If you see fish doing big swirls or paired up in shallow water, move along to other spots.

Hello everyone. I tried fishing this afternoon on the South Fork of the American River. Fished from Riverton but didn’t go far enough to reach Kyburz. I didnt catch anything, no bites to report either. I was euro nymphing with a single fly, just trying to get better at the technique. The water was quite...

Hi All, Anyone have a good recommendation for water as close as Putah but a little easier? My wife has really put in the work and tagged along with me for years now, I want to put her in some easy "just catch some fish" water. Doesn't even have to be trout. Anything as close as Putah that would hit this catego...

No New Posts Euro Nymphing PC (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 16 2342

I have been researching the technique, but I am still not sure if I should give it a shot. The rod I will be using is a 9‘ 5 weight and I am concerned I won’t be able to effectively cover water that is too far away to reach. Also, with the fast, deep runs, I am afraid the only way to get my fly down is with a big heavy...

No New Posts A thank you to some anglers (Preview) Putah Creek Fly Fishing 12 1663

When I was seven or eight years old, my parents planned a family trip to Yellowstone National Park. Already a fishing nut by then, I quickly found out that fly fishing was the way to catch trout there. I needed a fly rod to use on the trip. I begged my mother all summer long for something, anything. Eventua...
