Finally back to fishing, was on the creek yesterday and found a nice watch on a trail between access #3 and #4. Might not be fisherman's watch, kind of fou fou . On second thought might be a fly fishermans watch. Also found a jar of green power bait. Call the local DFG office to retreive it.
This year I decided to try a less expensive and possibly just as good alternative to the usual fly line backings like Dacron and gel-spun lines. Dyneema seems like the perfect alternative. It doesn't stretch, is really tough and thin for the rated breaking strength. For the rated strength Dynee...
I have noticed a lot of graffiti and stickers latley at the creek spacfically at the bridge / Stickers being placed over graffitti making a real mess of the report box . One reads {Born Dead } I googled born dead they are a Punk Band out of Oakland on Facebook I PMed them asking them to refraning from defac...

Anyone using these new fly lines? At $50 I'm wondering how they perform. My experience has shown that anything under $70 doesn't do what I want it to do well enough ie shoot, mend, roll cast etc.
Hi - fished Putah yesterday at no4with client. Large amounts of debriefing were being washed down with large plumes of mud that didn' clear for 15 min or more. Notified dfg and they are investgating. If you see anyone bulldozing or dumping it is illegal. Please take photos and notify Cal Tip immedia...
Take your pick all the bugs were hatching today. BWOs, midges, little winter stones, little yellow stones, big mayflies that look like March Browns, but are probably Pink Alberts and quite a few glossies. I guess they had no choice but to hatch. Flows went down about 50 CFS and it was probably hatch...

Went fishing a couple of days ago hoping to catch a few out of spot 4 and 5 but not a single fish hit my nymphs after 6 hrs of constant dredging. Water was not muddy, only a slight tint, but flow was pretty low. Are the fish hiding for some reason? Anyway, will follow suggestions from this forum and try agai...
Took a drive to see what the creek looked like. Very brown zero visibility. Cold Creek and Thompson are both dumping in silt. Also getting a good amount of silt from a few new gullies around the burn area mid creek. It is funny I saw someone trying to fish with zero visibility.
Am I the only one thats concerned about the flows ? Why do they drop the flows to 67 cfs durring the time when eggs are in the graval and cant move to flowing water ?? I dont get it ?. I for one am mad . Doesnt the wild trout desegnation help with issues like flow drops . I think what make me so mad I have a hard tim...

New here, not really new to fishing Puta(h) Creek, but I haven't fished the creek since the early 1990's. Mostly been heading to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana to fish, but just retired so I want to re-visit the Creek and other local waters. It's my recollection that this is spawning season, at least until la...

I was no further out then 15 ft from the river right bank. If anyone happens across it, please shoot me an email at sec35@humboldt.edu. My wife and I wou...

Hey guys, the boards been slow lately and I always like to talk fly fishing so I wanted to start a discussion about your "go to" nymph rig. I'm not talking about patterns, but set up. I'm a self taught fly guy, reading books and magazine articles and since I started 5 or 6 yrs ago have always us...

Hello Putah Creek Fly Fishers, I spent 6 hours at the creek today and caught a single 12" rainbow at spot #4. The trout had a large hook (maybe #8 or #10) and line embedded deep into its tongue. The line was looped to a large steel clip with a small plastic rod connected to it. Looked like a broken...
For the past several years I have been working hard on getting the two handed casting down. It is time to add this skill to my guide arsenal. I am now offering spey casting lessons. The American River in Sacramento is a great place to learn because of the long wide open gravel bars. If you have ever had...
