Fished Pit 3 with the hordes. Lots and lots of grabs, landed about half. Fish were from 10-20+. Vast majority on basically a modified black ap in 14's. Rest on dark lord and prince also in 14's. They were the only 3 flies I used/needed. Water is high but you can cross the river in the rapid sections...
Drove up to see an old friend in Dunsmuir. Fished the upper Sacto in two spots. Stopped at Delta in hopes the browns were coming up from Shasta. The water was as high as I'd ever seen it. Fished an hour with no hits. Finally, I added a significant about of lead to sink my nymphs to the bottom. Started b...
Hi, everyone. I'm gonna go full sob story here to try to pull on your emotional strings for my personal benefit . My wife and I and our two cats (Party Charlie and Giza) were all able to escape unscathed. But, we lost just about everything. I woke up around 12:30 at night. I thought my cats or a raccoon, per...
The intent was using dry flies or emergers but there was very little surface activity compared too 2 weeks ago and after a couple hours I succumbed to the bobicator and a #20 midge. The 0wt has no backbone so I figured if I hooked anything big I'd just break it off rather than kill it trying to land. I end...
STOP LITTERING and tossing Cigeretts buts left throw on the ground So I get it we all litter some a piece of paper or some little thing we let hit the ground when no one is looking but im pretty sure I make up for it by all the trash I do pick up. Shoes, water bottles ect ect , So I like to hike in to the guide hole...
Does anybody have a pattern/size suggestion for the little dinks that are rising in the morning? There were plenty of rises at all of the places I fished today. It would be fun to target them with some light gear. I fished for about 4 hours this morning for two decent fish. The catching wasn't the gre...
I am now offering a "putah care pakage" assortment of flies that currently work for me on the creek. These flies can and will change as the season changes so the selection is always being updated. The package is 10 flies each and mostly nympths with maybe a dry thrown in depends on the time of y...
September 3 I hooked and recorded a nice bow below staircase. Yesterday fishing the same area and I caught him again. First time was a midge larvae, second was a red San Juan. Anyone else have this happen with some of the larger fish?
I apologize if this is inappropriate for this section. We have no how to section. I loved it and pass it along just to show how people make do with less then adequate gear. Enjoy. East Bay Ed I got a kick out of this. I used to bow hunt with a Martin Lynx. It was a lot of work. Never tried for fish. You h...
Been struggling nymphing in the lower water lately. I was having really consistent result until about 2 weeks ago. Downsized my indicator, lessened weight, and I've tried tons of flies. Anyone have a few nymph suggestions that are working lately? Also, what color and pattern of caddis nymph/p...
I've been watching a bunch of YouTube fishing videos for an upcoming project. I am amazed at the lack of awareness anglers are posting with very poor fish handling techniques. There are a ton of videos where guys aren't even wetting their hands before touching the fish. Also, dangling small fish in...
I was wondering if anyone ever has success using crayfish flies, either dead drifting or as a streamer. I see the little things all the time at the creek and know that fish love them elsewhere (e.g. Truckee).
Been fishing the creek for a few years now and today had easily my largest trout ever on my line. 24" roughly and fat as hell! Unfortunately after a few massive jumps it spit my hook out. I've seen others catch that size and a couple larger but what is the biggest caught out of here? Curious.
My lovely aunt sent me this picture of my grandfather after a morning of fishing at Putah. She believes the photo was taken in the area of the now Lake Solano park circa 1967 or 1968. The dirt road is certainly interesting! Looks like a Chinook to me
i lost an absolute HOG today. Three jumps and five minutes of sulking and PING, off to lake Solano. I'm just heartsick -- Edited by mudhen on Thursday 21st of September 2017 08:45:09 PM
Landed 2 on the swing (my first purely swing-targeted fish on Putah Creek - I had 2 nice tugs each of the previous two times I swung, but no connections). Then, I lost two nymping. Then, landed 2 more on dries - again. All decent fish. Attached are the swung up 'bows.

Thank you to the gentleman who gave me some tips and a #20 zebra midge! I landed a nice one! It's nice that the Putah community is a helping one. I'll pay it forward! I'll try and add a pic.
