No New Posts Russian River (Preview)
Fished 6 hours yesterday on the Russian.  The water has a little green tint with about a foot of visability.  It is as high as I've fished it in the last few years.  No hookups for fishing  for 6 hours.  Very bright sun yesterday.

No New Posts Fly Leader Update (Preview)
Thanks for all of your help.  I've been tying leaders using the traditional blood knot.  About every third knot has been slipping.  Not sure why (I don't have the blood knot tying tool), but I did an internet search and one person suggested using an Albright knot.  Never heard of it before so I did a sea...

No New Posts Steelhead fly leader formula (Preview)
In this day of upscale equipment and state of the art fly rods, vests, etc. I find myself getting a little upset.  Maybe its because I'm older, retired, and a cheap skate.  Anyway, I decided to start tying my own steelhead leaders.  I googled steelhead leader formula's and came up with formula's from 5...

No New Posts Merced at El Portal (Preview)
Fished the Merced last weekend in the yearlong section above Foresta bridge; nary a bite all day. The Flows were at 200 and the river was gorgeous. Had kids with me so I wasn't wading too far from them so my fishing was limited. The kids got sick of casting their spinners so we spent most of the day teachin...

No New Posts 0 for my last 4 (Preview)
I haven't had a fish in the net my last 4 trips out; 3 at Putah one day on the American....worst drought ever. Hitting the Yuba on Monday to try and break my year end ugly duck. Might need a guided trip somewhere soon or I'll be hanging up the waders and cleaning the Cannondale.

Cole, myself and two buddies had been scheduled for a year to do a 2 day drift trip on the Trinity and Lower Sac this past weekend.  The Lower Sac went chocolate about 10 days ago, reportedly from the McCloud arm fire mush being washed into Shasta and then down.  So it turned into Trinity and either Yub...

Bear tracks from Rose bar. Animal guide, I follow. Riffles of plenty. Mountains of Blue oak. This wilderness, a mistress of illumination. Maze of willows. Rivers edge. Walking streamside, endless Pliocene cobbles. My sore ankles. Swallows dart, Baetis dance. Morning risers, dawn briskly. Venu...

No New Posts Yuba 12/14 report (Preview)
I worked the weekend and took advantage of the weather window with a day run up to the Yuba on Friday.  Seeing that it was going to be 33 degrees in the morning, I got a little later start than usual.  The river was in great shape, about 2-3 foot of visibility with that great green tinge to the water.  There w...

Now that work is finally beginning to slow down, I can get a few fishing days in before the end of the year.  It's been a nuthouse this year, but all in a good way. I was originally plannning to fish the Lower Yuba on 12/2, above the bridge after it opens.  In looking at the weather reports, with all of the ra...

Made my way up to the Trinity twice last month in hopes for some fresh fish, nice weather, and no crowds.  the first trip in the middle of the month gave up just that, the second only gave up fresh fish, it got cold/wet/croded. With 2 rods ready to go, a swinger and a indicator, truck packed to live in for...

No New Posts Big Wood River & Silver Creek Idaho (Preview)
I was fortunate enough to get two days of fishing in while in Idaho for my daughter's wedding a couple weeks ago.  For those of you that haven't had the chance to fish either the Big Wood or Silver Creek, I highly recommend them both.  Silver Creek has some monster browns and the Big Wood is plentiful with...

No New Posts Any Russian River Steel (Preview)
OK, I admit it.  I've taken up golf after quiting for 30 years and I'm hooked (pardon the pun).  Anyway, I'm trying to drag my aging butt to a river to fish.  I'm wondering if there are any steelhead in the Russian yet?   Thanks for any info.   PS--I did go up to the Truckee last week.  The weather changed eve...

No New Posts Frankenfish (Preview)
Back to the Yuba.  Fishing was pretty slow, but I did manage to catch Frankenfish!  My first Yuba fish from the Feather.  I think DFG cut the fishes head open and poured Yuba water into its head.  There was a vertical cut on the head just about all the way around... -- Edited by Otter on Saturday 27th of Oct...

No New Posts First trip to E Carson (Preview)
Had my first solo adventure to the E Carson. Super low water, but still fun. A lot of work as the fish were only holding in the areas with more water, a good quarter to half mile apart. And of course, that's where everyone was fishing. Was still able to manage a few nice fish in the evenings, tossing small dr...
