Like Otter, we just back from a week on the eastside, mostly various sections of the Owens and Hot Creek. Hot Creek was low-ish and tough, the Crowley fish had vacated the Upper Owens, and the Gorge was unexplicably high due to turbine work. Good news was the Lower Owens was on fire. No caddis blankets, but regular 20+ fish days on BWOs and PMDs. Given my son's success with a brass Phoebe, I probably should have spent more time swinging streamers. Lots of baby browns around right now.
Nice Job Chris!! Your son will be outfishing you anytime soon. Growing like a weed and taking in all the knowledge. It is great to get out there on the East Side before all the crowds!! What is a brass phoebe??
it's a spoon like a daredevil or sidewinder. very productive for trout. The last time I fished lake Alpine, I was with my son who doesn't flyfish and we went out in a canoe and I paddled while he trolled. Caught a bunch of planter rainbows on Kastmasters and Phoebes.
Yep, he's totally hooked. Still working on the fly rod skills, but he loves hucking the junk. We're working on the Heritage Trout Challenge together. He's got two of the six species done, hoping to get four this year. That's one of his Lahontans we caught at Heenan last fall in my avatar.
