Finally got one. my first trout on a fly. I snuck out the house spent almost 4 hours trying to get some trout in one little old hole near the bridge. Actually I was casting around almost 360 degrees but that one hole kept my attention. I saw a bunch of medium sized rainbows in feeding mode and I could not get t...

No New Posts Huge Baitus Hatch!! (Preview)
Yes, the spelling error was intentional, as I was referring to folks fishing with bait, not actual insects.  Concord Bob and I met up Friday morning, as we do every couple of weeks, and decided to fish the bridge area for a change.  With the low flows, I switched to using a caddis dry as an indicator with a...

Fished for about an hour in the afternoon, swinging scuplin patterns. Missed one nice one and landed one about 18' or so. Thinking about heading out early tomorrow before class. If anyone wants to meet me out there, pm me.

I snuck out after lab today for some evening fishing.  I got on the water a little after 5:00.  There weren't too many people out there which was nice, so I was able to fish a couple of holes that I haven't fished in a while.  I can't believe how low the water is.  I could barely get a drift in water that I coul...

Was there in the afternoon for a skunk near the bridge. It possibly could be just on me, the beginner cause i saw lots of fish and other fishermen catching. I tried both nymphs and dries and only had the fish following the dry fly - a moth-looking small fly. anyways it was good to be out, its nice weather, ni...

I ran out to the creek last night just before dark.  I got out of lab late, but after a long day of school, I needed a break.  I started fishing about 6:15PM, so I got about 30 minutes of fishing in.  The water is crazy low (46cfs)!  I still found a couple of willing fish, though.  The biggest fish lan...

Got out for a couple hours today.  Arrived up from #3 about 2pm. Water is still dropping.  It's surreal to see the "subsurface" features of this creek become visible. First time for me. What were long slow draws back in August, are turning into "martian pocket water" bordered b...

I'm new to the board and have a question regarding the "emerger swing" that so many of you have mentioned in past posts to be so effective while fishing putah creek. And since I plan to fish the creek this weekend I was hoping that you could help clarify some questions for me. I've searched aro...

No New Posts What's the deal with Prince Nymph's? The Rodney Dangerfield of Fly Fishing? (Preview)
Ok ... let me come clean! I had a religious experience about 9 years ago, on Prosser Creek in Tahoe. I was a hack fisherman.  My family was spending the week with the family of one of my wife's coworker's.  The husband, an avid outdoorsman, invited me to go fly fishing with him. I said heck ya!  He loaned me...

No New Posts Winter Fishing (Preview)
Having never fished Putah in the winter, I was wondering if you still needed shot with these low flows to get your flies down to where the fish are.  I am heading out Thursday and wanted to ask.  Thanks.

No New Posts Rod Length (Preview)
Im new to this site. I used to fish the lower part of the river near the bridge for about 7 years when I was younger. I took a pretty long break from fly fishing. I was wondering what length of a rod would be good up in the creek? I have a 9' but I think that may be too long for that section.

No New Posts Regulations about fishing near the dam. (Preview)
Does anyone know the regulations about fishing as you approach the dam?  I was there a few weeks ago in my float tube and I often fish the area between the overanging power line and as close as where the chain-link fence can be seen on the opposite side where I'm sure it says NO TRESSPASSING.  A couple of gu...

I stopped coming home from Sacramento yesterday at Putah Creek.  First time that I ever fished the creek. I was pleasantly surprised.  However, I did nowhere near as well as those of you posting on this board. I did stick one big fish and then caught two smaller fish.   It is a tough wade.  I missed the r...

Was thinking of getting on the Putah at 7:00 am Sat morning. How does the sunrise activity compare to dusk on the Putah? I drive up from San Fran and can get there any time on the weekend. Also, since I am new to the Putah Creek, what good fly shop is there for any last minute supplies, Putah bugs etc...?

No New Posts Name that bug (Preview)
Name this bug.  The fish are chasing caddis in various spots along the creek.  The fly is a size 14 poohpah.  Hares ears in large sizes are also working.   The trick is to swing the flies at the end of drift or to twitch the flies in the drift.  Saw mykissman on the creek on tuesday.  I was wondering about y...

I am in town for the weekend and planning on fishing the tailwater section close to Monticello.  Looks like the flows are low, 46 cfs.  How close can one get to the damn if I was to park at the Canyon Creek Resorts parking lot near Cold Creek?  Any ideas of choice of flies to fish?  Any help from the members w...

In another thread the topic of fish morality came up along with the stress levels of fish, and proper catching and releasing.  I am by no means a expert on the proper way to release fish, and in an effort to help as many fish as possilbe to survive, what do you folks think is the best way to play, land, and rel...

It's been awhile since I posted, but I've been following the reports. I haven't been to the Creek since early Spring, but I enjoy the late Fall/Winter months because of the low flows. As a newbie to the Putah, I undersatnd that the creek flows are subject to the upstream dam, however why are there such large fluctuations and why is the flow down all the time in the winter? Is it always low in the winter?

It was a dark and stormy night, well it was cloudy, windy, and threatening rain. I fished from 3:30 to 7:00 above #1  in a couple of spots and saw only one other fisherman on the opposite bank.  It was actually very beautiful out, colors and contrast. I had some action, 3 little ones and than a 12" and...

I fished the creek Saturday morning with chucktheduck.  The flows had dropped quite a bit, and the fishing was tough.  We came across a monster brown in a deep depression behind some rocks.  Chucktheduck made a couple of casts to him when, out of nowhere, the fish rocketed out of the water right in fron...
