I should have a few days this coming week to go up over Thanksgiving break.  Does anyone know any current hot flies that are working?  i know about all the standards:  fox poopah (tan, olive), pheasant tails, prince nymphs, copper johns, midges and wd40's.  I was also wondering if anyone had any luck u...

No New Posts New regs for Putah (Preview)
Silly maby. But the regs say as of November 15th. Only artificial lures with barbless hooks may be used. So I guess a multi fly set up is ok? Right. I am still stuck on the old regs single barbless hook. And zero limit!!!  Sound right.

Hello to all of you who have shared your experiences and insight on this web page! I've been Flyfishing for a lot of years, first in the Catskills of New York and for the last fifteen years, here in Northern California. I've fished Putah a couple of times since I moved to California and have never done w...

No New Posts I want to give Putah Creek a try this weekend (help) please (Preview)
Hello everyone I just found this Putah Creek forum site and it looks awesome. I have wanted to fish Putah creek for a while now but I live in Lodi and have not had time to drive-fish-drive back.  This Saturday I think I'm going to give it a try but I have no idea where I should go and fish.  I am fairly new to fly...

No New Posts Fishing Report 11/14 (Preview)
Subtitle:  The Good, the Bad and the Ugly The Good It was an absolutely beautiful day with no crowds other than the usual gob-lobbers at the resort hole above the bridge.  I think they were trying to squeeze in another day of fishing due to the Nov 15th regs.  I took my newbie friend Bob out and we had alm...

No New Posts Monday report (Preview)
Fished most of the day today from 11-5.  Seemed pretty tough today.  Lots of bugs and fish rising in all the areas I fished.  That seems like about the worst time lately to be on the creek for me, mid day like that.  I finally got a 17" native right below the bridge in some slack eddie behind a rock.  Fi...

No New Posts Indicator or not to indicator, that is the question. (Preview)
Hey everyone, Lately I've been using a dry fly with a dropper rig since the flows were so low, but since the flows are up a bit, do you think I should go back to an indicator? I'll be there tomorrow, and hopefully they don't bring the flows back down to 46.

I've been semi-lurking on this board, leeching info from the regulars.  One tip found here, however, was so productive, I thought I'd better give back some goodies. The Fishing Report: Since the flows appear to be up a bit, I thought I'd start at the bridge.  The current still looked anemic to me and th...

No New Posts sunday midday (Preview)
Today's flow was a tad higher than the previous 4 Sunday midday trips at my spot. Wading wasn't a problem but today I only witnessed a baitchunker catch one small planter and that was it. Not alot of fly fishermen. I didn't spy any fish in the water, only one maybe breaking the surface, and of course a skun...

No New Posts Too Low Flow? (Preview)
The flow at the creek is super low and some good runs are now exposed. Do the the flows stay this low all winter or do they let more water out? How can i find out when/if they are letting water out?

Hit the creek at about 10am, weather was pretty nice, lots of bug activity in the air. I found some risers, but it took me about 6 or so patterns to match what they were taking. It's hard to tell sometimes when there are 3 or 4 different mayflys hatching along with caddis and midges. Once I started using a l...

Another blatant newbie question.... Got any tips for removing barbs? I'm not tying my own yet!  Actually looking forward to it, just no time yet. Trying to get ready for the 17th.  I've been told you don't even want to have a single barded hook in your vest if a warden stops you in the "off season&qu...

No New Posts Foul hooked ... ??? (Preview)
Hi Gang, I was out back on Monday,  added another great "the one that got away" story to my arsenal. BUT, what I want to ask about is a different subject.  I foul hooked my second fish since starting to fish the creek in August. I got him above the mid line, on the side, just behind the dorsal fin....

I snuck out of lab early again today.  I made it up to the creek about 4PM and fished for a little over an hour.  The fish were doing a lot of feeding in the upper half of the water column which made it easy to get to the fish.  I landed quite a few fish and hooked into many more.  The biggest to net was 15", b...

Hit the creek at Noon and fished till dark......a few bait fishermen, but not too bad as far as being over-crowded for a nice Friday afternoon. I tried my usual favorite patterns for this time of year and the fish seemed keyed in on my #24 RS2 with no weight attached.  When I tie up these small RS2's, I like...

I fished the creek yesterday with jcombs.  The fishing was pretty tough with the low flows.  There were fishermen everywhere!  We were able to find some fishable water away from the crowds, though.  We landed a few fish but nothing very big.  Fish seemed to like Fox Poopahs and Copper Johns.  I wish I...
