Having never fished Putah in the winter, I was wondering if you still needed shot with these low flows to get your flies down to where the fish are.  I am heading out Thursday and wanted to ask.  Thanks.

If using a dry/dropper set up you don't need extra weight.  Just use a bead head nymph as your dropper.  If you are using an indicator, you might want a little bit of weight to get deeper.

I high stick way more in winter.  If you find yourself fishing water you can reach easier that way switch over.

I use weight all the time.

Mo weight, mo deep. And mo lost flies laughing.gif

In the winter, 2 BB's is usually plenty. I remember doing fine with just one.

The amount of weight definitely depends on the run you're fishing.  I guess I oversimplified my previous post.  Just to let you know, I change the amount of weight, length of leader between indicator and flies, and the size of the indicator until I find the fish's feeding level.  Don't be lazy.  If you're not catching fish, CHANGE.
