Dude at the spot we fished between 2 and 3 I scooped up a whole handful at one point when i was lookin for bugs. Tons of rockworms also. Pretty fun day huh, I managed to hook one more in that big pool on a #20 zebra midge after you left But lost it, not very big.. So were we fishin next ? I'm down for another yuba trip in a few weeks, let me know when you can get off on a saturday. We need to get into more of those turbo charged badass yuba river trout ! Also wanna try some american river half pounders.

ya shaun definitly cant complain. to bad you couldnt end it on a really good note, atleast you hooked one at the end of the day. as far as next trip it might just have to be a few weeks. could always wait until dec 1st to hit up the yuba again. i think we need to keep and eye out for how the salmon are doing. but ya in a few weeks i want to get my fly box started but i also need to start takin my days off, and either sending a few with the gf, or takin a half day off twice a week so i can still be at work tryin to make money and still have a a day off. but ya no worries we will get out there again. and when we go chucktheduck would like to come too.

I hadn't seen many NZ Mud Snails for a while until today. The access 3 tributary that dries up this time of the year, near the parking lot, was loaded with them.
They were collecting in some of the remaining pools that are drying up.

Sometimes it is hard for people to take the NZMS problem seriously if they never see one. Seeing them drives the point home on how they can completely take over their environment.

The black specs on everything in this picture are snails.

A couple of years ago at access #5 there were tons of NZMS.  They were crazy thick!  In one area it was like black sand.  Make sure you sanitize your gear before fishing other spots.

Yeah...I'm with you Frenchie.

I was at that great little shop in Pleasant Hill a few months back and asked the lady there if the problem was real...she said absolutely.

Then about 3 weeks ago, before the flows dropped, I was bush wacking my way
along way the heck back in there.  Lost between 1 and 3.  Found all kind of standing water, and some slow moving little trickles and found myself in a sea of the vermin.  Their definately no joke.

Its bad enough their in Putah, important to prevent spread.

Great call out!

Ed.

Yeah guys, like Captain said, I saw a ton of those snails between 2 and 3... By the way, I caught a bunch of 5 to 10 inchers after I left... And the smallest trout I've ever caught, it was about 3 inches and fought harder than all the other ones. All on a stimulator with a prince nymph dropper, 90% were on the nymph. Also, watch out for those f***ing ants..they bite.
