Yesterday I lost a fly box close to access #3 beside the creek. It is tan and has "American Flyfishing Co" on the front. Please let me know if you find it!
Being out of work has got me to start thining about alternate ideas to make a little bit of money other than doing electrical side jobs. Is their any real market for somebody to produce a couple of small wooden prams/driftboats a year? I've been thinking of smaller boats such as the one acutioned off by...
I have hit the Delta a few times and always get skunked. I finally caught a fish. It was slightly bigger than the fly!!! We caught some bigger fish, and had a lot of fun. A big thanks to my guide and striper king GC.
I have no intentions of starting the argument that went on last year with this question I'm just curious. I was looking back through older posts and saw a lot of reports from late december early january that were accompanied by pictures of large obviously spawning fish. Some pictures i could recogniz...
So we did the 5 flies you would fish, what about species? And for this one you only get one pick.....caddis, may, stone, midge, leech, toad, squirrel, whatever your fav but you only get one pick.
I saw this on Moldy Chum today..... if any of you are look a like it is worth a try. I reckon if Cliff had a few double-doubles and a shake or two to wash them down he would be in with a shout?? Is it worth shaving your head for a chance at an Echo Rod of your choice?
Thank all of you who've reported your trips to the creek. We had 42/45 reports with fish caught, 1-17, ave. 6+ (257 total). This is about double last years totals for November. These results may be skewed a bit by who is/isn't completing a survey when they go out. If you are not catching fish, that infor...
The creek flows will be going up tomorrow to send a pulse down the lower creek to assist any salmon to come up for spawning. The flows are usually raised to around 100 cfs for several days; until Dec 5 this year. There is a need to knock holes in beaver dams below the diversion dam all the way out to the Sac ri...
Hello there, tiger.huang@jigreels.com I saw Bob have a question about JigReels Fishing Tackle from Shanghai. I am the owner, so I have to tell every of you clearly. I worked in a automation control company and Fishing Tackles are my interests, part time job. I work with Quality Fly Reels factory fro...
I'm off to China in a few days on a work trip and because everything is made there these days, including probably all the graphite blanks on the planet, is it worthwhile buying gear there? I've found one site for a store in Shanghai but it could be junk, anyone know? http://www.jigreels.com/fishing-...
Today, after checking spawning sites, meeting some nice folks including bwag, I stopped at Access 5 for a few minutes of fishing. I thought the Cadillac with the pearlescent paint job parked in the lot looked a little out of place as a FF rig (besides who parks in the lot). Moving on, I saw a young man cra...
I like to post this interview with a "PC Original" from time to time, just to take the edge off in celebration of the coming holidays: Today's Putah Creek Profile (PCP) is of local legend Orvis Remington-Peters. Petey, as he is known to his friends, is a PC original with close to 40 years of ex...
Steve, how was the cleanup? Sorry I missed it. Finally got to go camping and fishing for 4 days after 2.5 straight months of work. Hope you had a good turnout.
Got rained on, got sucked into mud holes, got skunked, got scratched to bits, lost a small fortune in flies and leaders, lost a beautiful fish right at my feet, lost my sunglasses, got rained on a bit more, and enjoyed every minute of it.
Headed up there with a neighbor who like myself is returning to fl...
Ok, 2 years ago I started a thread about gloves, what kind you guys have used, what is best for warmth, waterproof, function, etc. I'm curious to see if there have been any advancements in gloves since Nov. 2009. I am currently still using my Orvis fleece mitten/convertible fingerless ones which ar...
Hello, first time posting, started fishing Putah this summer after a 20 year break from fishing all together. Seems like the holes/riffles that I have been fishing for the past two months aren't producing the fish for me. I know they are there, I can see them jumping out of the water. I suspect tha...
A very long time ago I wanted to fish the Russian River for Steelhead. This is the year to start. I was told to use shooting heads and swing the flies. What flies work? Can you nymph? Where is the best place to start. When do the Steelhead make there run? Thanks Dave
I have noticed a lot of young fish in the creek compared to last year. (Ed Note: maybe because I am actually catching some fish this year). I have heard that parr marks usually dissapear ~ 1 year old. What I have observed is fish with very different size having similar parr marks. Are these from diffe...
I've posted this on a couple of other boards that I am a member of. Basically these are free to download, historical topographic maps of the entire state. Might come in handy when trying to find new waters to fish or how to access them. Enjoy USGS release of more than 13,688 historical topographic ma...
I am going on vacation to Todos Santos in Baja this Nov and am taking my 7wt fly rod. A couple of my friends live there and one is renting her house to me and my wife. The other friend told me that there are a lot of 1-2lb fish, sierra, roosterfish and the like just cruising in the surf at a few of the calmer bea...
Game six is almost as good as watching the Giants win the world series. Tied up in the ninth two run homer by the Rangers and tied up again in the tenth. Going to the eleventh!
Two interesting things I saw today on PC: Richard doing a donut in his truck in the parking lot below the bridge... What a way to make an entrance! I don't think I could pull that off in my front wheel drive wagon.... A 4/4 buck and his lady friend while wading down at access #5. I think we were BOTH surp...
October 28, 2011 — The White Salmon River in Washington state is flowing again as the nearly 100-year-old Condit Dam was disabled with explosives Wednesday. The reservoir draining took about 2 hours. Further demolition is scheduled in 2012. The event is a significant milestone for river restorat...
Made it all the way up to the Trinity only to catch a handful of smolts and a 8" brown. The big fish were definitely there, as well as huge crowds of both wading and boat anglers. Had a big fella on for a split second and lost him as soon as he rocketed upstream and into the air. There were alot of salmo...
Im headed up to Redbluff monday and tuesday. I hear the lower Sac runs though it. I have never fished it. Can anyone give me some pointers on flies and where to enter the river? I will be wadding of course. Thanks for any input.
I lost my two-sided plastic box with over 100 flies. Nymphs on one side and dry flies on the other. Left the zippered pocket unzipped in rough terrain! Please keep a dozen or so and send me the rest. FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS GARY from Vallejo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- Edited by...
I looked at the govt's website before fishing yesterday and it appeared to signal around 120 cfs. When I got to PC the flows appeared much lower than this, maybe around 80cfs. Looking at the bank and the rocks, the water looked as if it had dropped at least 6" from the previous day, probably more....
Fished Putah for about 2 hours from 430 to dark yesterday. Landed four (all on a dry fly) had six on. Good time for two hours and a twenty minute drive. Edit: all were 12 inches. -- Edited by georgek on Sunday 30th of October 2011 10:29:21 AM
