Got rained on, got sucked into mud holes, got skunked, got scratched to bits, lost a small fortune in flies and leaders, lost a beautiful fish right at my feet, lost my sunglasses, got rained on a bit more, and enjoyed every minute of it.
Headed up there with a neighbor who like myself is returning to fly fishing after a long absence and the fish got the better of both of us. To add insult to injury a guy coming up behind us and fishing the water we'd just fished landed a few very nice fish... He felt bad for me and gave me the fly he'd caught them on and pointed at the hole... I still couldn't hook up. Very nice guy indeed...was it anyone here? Access 3 Sunday afternoon? You don't meet people like that on the golf course.
I think we'll be retaining the services of mr bono pretty soon, these fish don't like to be caught... At least not by amateurs.
I wouldn't feel bad, after taking a 20 year break from Putah (as a bait fisher) and fishing all together, I returned this summer, new to fly fishing and got skunked the first 5 times. Now I do fairly decent (for me) and usually land 2-3 and miss setting the hook on a few more each trip.
