Was thinking of getting on the Putah at 7:00 am Sat morning. How does the sunrise activity compare to dusk on the Putah? I drive up from San Fran and can get there any time on the weekend. Also, since I am new to the Putah Creek, what good fly shop is there for any last minute supplies, Putah bugs etc...?

Name this bug.? The fish are chasing caddis in various spots along the creek.? The fly is a size 14 poohpah.? Hares ears in large sizes are also working.?? The trick is to swing the flies at the end of drift or to twitch the flies in the drift.? Saw mykissman on the creek?on tuesday.? I was wondering about y...

In another thread the topic of fish morality came up along with the stress levels of fish, and proper catching and releasing.? I am by no means a expert on the proper way to release fish, and in an effort to help as many fish as possilbe to survive, what do you folks think is the best way to play, land, and rel...
Hello all, I made it to the creek around 7:30, fished?til noon. Thanks to the posts I have read in the last few weeks I fished a #16 Prince and a few different?BWO patterns #18-#22. Landed 11 fish, lost 2 others, all were around 12-16" and one big fat fish that measured 19". All in all I had a lot o...
It's been awhile since I posted, but I've been following the reports. I haven't been to the Creek since early Spring, but I enjoy the late Fall/Winter months because of the low flows. Based on the reports wading must be pretty good? I'm hoping to loose a few flies and catch a few fish within the next few da...

As a newbie to the Putah, I undersatnd that the creek flows are subject to the upstream dam, however why are there such large fluctuations and why is the flow down all the time in the winter? Is it always low in the winter?
I missed my weekly Friday morning at Putah to get an early start toward Dunsmuir.? We hit some rain south of Redding and it continued until around noon, when it fortunately stopped for the rest of the weekend.? My friend and I hit our favorite spot on the Upper Sac for the afternoon and evening and had exc...

It was a dark and stormy night, well it was cloudy, windy, and threatening rain. I fished from 3:30 to 7:00 above #1? in a couple of spots and saw only one other fisherman on the opposite bank.? It was actually very beautiful out, colors and contrast. I had some action, 3 little ones and than a 12" and...
I fished the creek Saturday morning with chucktheduck.? The flows had dropped quite a bit, and the fishing was tough.? We came across a monster brown in a deep depression behind some rocks.? Hi All, As you know we play with some very big fish each year at this time. I missed last weeks adventure to Isla Guadalupe and fished Putah instead. It was a toss-up. Catch a pile of great little fighters under clear skies and perfect conditions....or miss a once-in-a-lifetime Great White Shark attac...
Just got back from a week on Oahu. Before I left I debated whether or not to attempt some salt water fishing....thought maybe I might be pushing it a little...but then figured I was going to be surrounded by salt water and you only live once, so decided to check out some bone fishing.
Called Nervous Wat...
Now that the flows have been choked back, I am curious about how deep we should be fishing.? It seems to me that fast water dictates that fish are either going to be at the seam of slow/fast water or right on the bottom behind a rock.? With slower water the fish can be anywhere. I've not fished this creek muc...
Hey guys, I'm coming in from out of town on business and was wanting to sneak away Tuesday afternoon to the Putah but I just noticed the flows were dropping rapidly....is it still fishable ? So, with horrible traffic, my pleasant Friday evening of fishing turned into a mad scramble to get on the creek in time to catch a few. Got on the creek about 6:00 which nowadays is 1 hour from dark.? Got a few grabs tightlining, nothing to hand. Got up to a certain 'rock' and got three fish to hand, biggest...
Chuck's post on finding fish on putah got me thinking about something I'd like to ask your guys opinion on. When it comes to current how fast do you guys think is to fast to hold fish. Do any of ya actually have success in fast white water sections, Like the one at access #1 below the long slow section, that w...
After drifting the Lower Sac on Saturday I stopped in to fish Putah on Sunday for a couple of hours. Caught a nice rainbow?within a few minutes time and then almost stepped on a rattle snake?when crossing the island at access point 3.? It didn't give any pre-warning and I didn't see it until I was only a fe...
It has been said that 90% of the fish hold in 10% of the water.? So I was wondering if the10% of the fishermen who catch 90% of the fish would be willing to reflect on some types of water that 90% of fish hold in 10% of the time.? Good, now that everyone is thoroughly confused I was basically trying to narrow do...
